we have little depth at center, bozak not signed, wants 5 million...probley wont happen realistically.
kadri has played how many games?
colborne is still a rookie
mcclemment is a great penalty killer, not a great 2nd or 1st line C.
therefore, to think grabo is going to be bought out...just so they can do what? sign bozak for 5 million? i'm sorry, but thats easily one of the dumbest things that could happen.
not to mention grabo's point production in the last 3 years puts him right behind who.....kessel, thats it.
end of story. - big_dion
What if they buy out Grabo and sign Bozak at 4.25? Dumb move? The reality is that this year Bozak was used far more by Carlyle than Grabo. He was a more valuable piece on this team. |

of course...whats the point?
grabo is worse at faceoffs, thats it.
so why spend 22 million to buy him out when we could eat someones contract for a 20 year old blue chip prospect (for example). |

Phaneuf is packing his bags. When both Mackenzie and Dreger are hearing he's on the block, it's probably going to happen. More cap space there, though probably as much $ coming back our way on a deal. - fifty__missions
Being on the block and finding someone who will pay what the Leafs want back in return or 2 different things. |

No, that's not it. Grabo has no chemistry with our top 6 wingers. He doesn't kill penalties, and really is not a great PP guy. It's more than faceoffs and to simplify it to that is incorrect. |

"everyone is available" is true of all teams, if the price is good enough.
"No calls on Phaneuf" doesn't sound like he's getting traded. |

grabo and JVR were pretty good before lupul got hurt and JVR went to the top line.
and for the record...grabo played 3rd line C last season, with VERY limited pp time and was vs the top lines all night, every night..you dont have the line who's vs the top line killing penalty's too...well, not usually at least.
dont like him, i dont care, hes a good player and he gives it his all. put him with legit top 6 wingers and he will prove his worth.
komarov, kulemin, macarthur and hamilton are not exactly your top 6 wingers that a 5.5 million dollar center usually plays with...but what do i know. |

What kind of contract do we re-sign him with, then? I really don't think the Leafs brass wants to tie their horse to the Phaneuf cart beyond his current deal. |

yeah i dont get why you are so pissy towards me, all i am saying is the leafs have very little depth at C and it makes little sense to buy out grabo.
liles makes much more sense if you ask me.. - big_dion
all I said was liles and Grabbo were buyout candidates... nothing more... you are the one throwing words like Idiotic.
Grabovski doesnt seem to fit in Carlyles system, at least for the first half of the season he used him as the primary checking Center, which seems odd for a guy making 5.5cap...you can get a cheaper hit to do the same work. Carlyle seemed to like to use Bozak a lot..so its not crazy to think Carlyle would prefer to have Bozak over Grabovski if there are no other option in FA
