As a person that has been in favor of the Leafs acquiring Bernier for a couple of years, only to be told by the majority on this site that Reimer is better, Bernier isn't good, and I'm nuts, it's quite fascinating to see everybody singing a different tune now that he's on the Leafs. - ThePresident
Thats why I said people are buying hype, but got accused of trash talking. Again, thank you sir! |

Nobody would want Raffie Torres,, Until we had him on the team. Then crowd favorite. |

So wrong.
In bernier you are getting a better technical goalie and a much better goalie at handling the puck. People will be surprised at how good and smooth bernier is.
He has the potential to be an elite starting goalie, so ethi g the leafs haven't had in many many years. - Fakepartofme
I hope so. Watching Reimer 'handle' the puck is infuriating. |

That's an overpayment. - ThePresident
We have Rielly coming up, and we cant afford to lose Phaneuf. The guy plays half the game for us and is by far our best D. Gardiner hasn't proven much in the NHL and already has concussion issues. Besides, you need to give to get. |

In the end our first line and schultz will be invited to try out for Canada's Olympic team. Yak will play for Russia. Who does TOR have of that caliber? Do you think Kessel will be at the olympics? |

so a team can only have retained salary form 3 players at a time... and used 2 of them on the Bernier trade. Wonder why LA wanted retained salary on both players? |

One thing people aren't mentioning about Reimer... he's pretty injury prone.
Not what you want in your #1. - Feeling Glucky?
A MCL sprain and getting ran into make you injury prone?

Being able to carry the load and play 8 to ten games in a row at a time consistently is massive. Lots of goalies can play awesome for one or a few games, but the best guys do it over the course of many games, as Reimer proved in his rookie year. I really hope Bernier ripps it up, but this has the potential to open up a hornets nest of problems, and like I said, Bernier doesn't play behind crap d in LA, we'll see how great he is in TO. - aminnes
ok.. guess the only way to know is to wait and see.. personally i put bernier ahead of reimer. |

Bernier has never played more than just a few in a row. No one really knows if he could handle 65 games in a season. - aminnes

Trading away Reimer, Lupul and Gardner will backfire. - aminnes
I don't think any one of them should be traded. |

They are RFA's though, plus there is no way we don't resign franson. Fraser should also come cheap (hope we resign him, guy is scary in front of the net) |

I'm pretty sure it was you who I was laughing at a few days ago - because you had the audicity to suggest that the Leafs could get Bernier for a package of junk including Frattin and Scrivens.
So if it was you, please consider this my apology.
I find it hard to believe that other teams couldn't put together a better package, although apparently Hextall was really high on Frattin.
Or high on something, evidentally... |

the leafs didnt aquire bernier just to move him
bernier will end up being the starter.. just accept it now and save yourself the anguish of a slow realization - Dozzer
Everyone is tradeable. If someone blows Nonis away with an offer they can have anyone on the roster or in the system. Problem is if Bernier commanded such a price someone would have offered it already. I'm thinking Reimer will be packaged with someone. |

Stastny could probably be had for much less.
1. He makes 6.6 million, and his stats have been declining every year.
2. The Avs GM is prone to being fleeced. |

I have been a proponent for getting P.Stastny for some time now, but not at the cost of Phaneuf. Plugging one hole to spring another doesn't make sense. I would only trade Phaneuf if Duchene was coming back our way. If we are aiming at Stastny, I think the deal would look more like
Tor
P.Stastny
COL
J.Gardiner.
May use some massaging, especially in the cap space area, but these pieces are more equivalent. - Holy_Makinaw99

His catching skills were so bad at the end of the Boston series, I was wondering if something was wrong.
They didn't announce any broken or sprained finger or anything, which leaves me with a scarier thought: it was mental.
Because no NHL goalie has that much trouble squeezing his catcher shut. - Atomic Wedgie
His glove has never been good and his rebound control is horrible. |

This team has a lot of holes.... If you look at it with only those who have contracts this year:
Lupul-Kadri (Obvious re-sign)-Kessel
JVR-Grabo-?
?-?-Kulemin
?-Mcclement-Orr
Phaneuf-?
Gardiner-?
Liles-?
Reimer
Bernier - markmark
Well, Kadri,Franson,Gunnarsson,Fraser,Colborne and McLaren are all RFas that will be re-signed.
Clarkson is our target. As is a depth d-man. And it sounds like were going to trade for a centre.
That would be
JVR centre? Kessel
Lupul Kadri Clarkson
McClement Grabovski Kulemin
McLaren Colborne Orr
Gunnarsson Phaneuf
Gardiner Franson
Fraser Holzer
Liles still in the mix and if we get another d-man that could move Gunnarsson down and Holzer to 7/8. Anything could happen, can't wait. |

Why they brought in Sakic, and made Roy a VP of hockey ops along as head coach. The GM is only there so Sakic doesn't have to deal with the media as much lol |

Agreed. I think they will be re-signed. Best case scenario we re-sign Gunnar and he gets over his hip issues and then we sign a UFA D man to play with Phaneuf or Gardiner. If we land a Scuderi, Ference or Hainsey, Id be ok with Gunnar beside Gardiner or Phaneuf with the UFA beside the other.
