Lots of guys were good in junior. Joseph wasn't drafted in the first round, man he sucked. Reimers proven. How do you know Bernier can even handle the work load. You don't. You are believing what the club is selling which is fine, but I predict this becomes a total mess. Bernier to Jersey for Clarkson. Done. - aminnes
You're obviously not aware what negociating rights are going for these days.
Trading bernier for clarksons rights is insane. |

Reimer will retain his position as a number 1. Scrivens will continue to develop and be a solid backup for perennial contenders no less. Frattin will score 20 or more and be that type with speed and a good back check. And the 2nd round pick will be who knows. In 3 years everyone will look back and wonder why the Leafs traded for a goalie when they had a solid number one who was young and still improving, all the while giving up a solid two way forward with speed, and a solid and inexpensive backup. Absolutely pointless trade when the defense is still what it is. - aminnes
So wrong.
In bernier you are getting a better technical goalie and a much better goalie at handling the puck. People will be surprised at how good and smooth bernier is.
He has the potential to be an elite starting goalie, so ethi g the leafs haven't had in many many years. |

Smartest thing I've read on here all day. Goaltending depth could be a problem though - t_leafs21
Regardless of who wins the starting job this deal was highway robbery. If someone suggested we give up Reimer for Frattin, Scrivens and a 2nd we'd tell them to flock off. |

He hasn't proven a thing. So essentially you have to buy into what someone else is selling do you not? Your saying you believe in him based on what he is touted to become, I believe in Reimer based on what he has done. Your not a sheep, Bernier is a good goalie, I'm just shocked you guys think he's going to be better than Reimer because that a tiny space, as Reims is closing in on the top goalies the more he plays. - aminnes
its not about the number of games.. go watch some bernier highlights.. focus on rebound control
its notably better.. |

Yep, Clarkson wants to be a Leaf, it has been reported. It's no gamble, plus throw in Volchenkov for good measure and a pick for taking his contract. The idead that Bernier could be more successful behind that d is perposturous. trade assets for d help. - aminnes
Do you have a link to these reports?

reimer? when he can prove that he can still keep the puck out when people get in his kitchen.. right now he cant do that consistently enough |

Why in the hell would we move Phaneuf for a decent center? We need someone to play WITH him. A center would be nice, but not at the expense of our already average D. - markmark
cause it will cost the leafs 6.5-7 mill to resign Phaneuf

Not sure why you guys are debating who is better, it's irrelevant. Both are good young goalies with high ceilings and both are Leafs. It's a thing of beauty I tell ya. |

That was at the end of a long grueling series. Ever play hockey?
That's where you need your goalie the most. - t_leafs21
Actually played very good hockey thanks. point shots win playoff games. Look at game seven oil vs car, both carolina goals were point shots where the goalie was screened. That is playoff hockey, and if your defense can't get the guy outta there not much the tender can do. No one had any issue with Reimer until yesterday, now everybody is knocking him. |

The only thing Reimer has proven is he misses substantial portions of playing time every season. Hell I didn't even think the Gionta hit looked that bad. I have seen much worse hits result in much less. |

Then wait to sign him for nothing.
If you want Volchenkov work out something separate. If NJ wanted Bernier they just had to offer a better deal to LA |

Phaneuf to Anaheim.
Chris Stewart, Volchenkov and Ian White will be off-season additions.

Sorry, from all the games I've seen bernier play, he is better than reimer. There's only about a 40 game difference between the two. Reimer has had one good half season, he too hasn't even played a full season. |

he was overpaid to begin with, and he's not the kind of guy who'll be taking less than he thinks he's worth |

Being able to carry the load and play 8 to ten games in a row at a time consistently is massive. Lots of goalies can play awesome for one or a few games, but the best guys do it over the course of many games, as Reimer proved in his rookie year. I really hope Bernier ripps it up, but this has the potential to open up a hornets nest of problems, and like I said, Bernier doesn't play behind crap d in LA, we'll see how great he is in TO. |

He's only being knocked because everyone is offended by the trade lol
As much as I hate to say it, I think Reimer's career will be a good backup goalie or a starting goalie on a weak(ish) team.
Go through the entire league, how many jobs would Reimer steal? |

it solidifies his decision, if a team reaches out for you they are aknowledging your skill. Might even help with a signing price, I would say a 4th-5th rounder is worth that. |
