from one perspective you are correct in that he does not equate to those players. But contracts rarely operate in that matter. Like Komisarek, he fits a certain need and tangible for most teams. He's going to get overpaid. I think Nonis is a smart guy tho, I don't think he signs him for more than 4mil. I'd be uncomfortable at 4.5 but it's what we're saving with Komisarek, so i'd live with it.

another way to perhaps view this is as follows - if Grabovski gets 5.5, and clearly isn't a 1 Center (by the UG definition he can't be because he's not 6'3"+, 230lbs and wasn't drafted in the top 3 or 4)... then give Clarkson Grabo's money or approximately Grabo's money. With Grabo, Leafs still lack a #1 Center (there can't be any argument there)... but with Clarkson the Leafs have a pretty solid looking top 4 wingers.

then take the extra left over from Grabo's salary, the 1.8 previously allocated to Bozak and Komisarek's CAP hit and you have about 7m (roughly to play with) to find a #1 Center.

Now if there isn't a 7M$ guy available, you take the next best thing NOT NAMED Ribeiro.

he's gonna challenge for a spot. He's learned he's a bottom 6 banger, and he's gotten pretty good at it. 13th forward... not saying he's playing with Kadri or anything, but I think he's figured out what he has to do.

He was very good 2nd half and in the playoffs.

probably more of a business stand point, your player may be over paid but at least you get SOMETHING for your money, buying him out is a hefty cheque that warrants nothing. That's gotta hurt greedy business owners.

So a guy I work with who is a Leafs fan but of the Debbie Downer variety, comes up to me today and says 'so, the Leafs got screwed again'. I said 'screwed, how do you figure?'. He said something like blah blah blah Frattin Scrivens draft pick. I said yeah Frattin and Scrivens are both good, but Bernier was a 11th pick for a reason, and goalies are valuable commodities. I think it could be a decent trade, but I'll wait and see..

Then I said I really like Frattin, but the Leafs have a lot of promising third liners who play with jam in their system, that's easier to come by than goalies.

He moved on quickly to the next fact, which is yeah, Kessel won't resign, Kessel is gone. I said, how do you figure? Oh, everyone knows that. I said I read Claude Julien at the All-Star Game said Kessel likes where he's at, his agent also said so.

Hope he proves me wrong. I thought he was promising prospect until I watched him live, couldn't make or take a pass, couldn't make fast enough decisions....at the AHL level.

IMO...Aulie would have done well under RC, that's why I say that.

Agreed. Would have been interesting to see how he would have developled under RC. I still wouldn't have traded Mohhamed Aulie for Aston.

ya he was brutal for a while. Eakins got his head in a good spot - started embracing the role he was given. He was vastly improved the later half of the season - different player.

But people said that about Lupul too when we obtained him. Just curious, I read an article that San Jose wanted to buy him out but can't.
