I don't think that the payouts are the same as the cap hits.

I seem to recall the cap hits follow what his cap hit would have been.

Give me ten minutes.

- Atomic Wedgie

yup it does... I (frank)ed it up.

so $2.166M hit next year = (frank) that.

for a #1C? yes, it is.

Bozak is 6'1, 195lbs, and yes, he is small.

- Big_Lightnin

When I played Jr, I was a good size. I am his size and now considered small. Funny how the kids are getting bigger, stronger and far faster.

Figures talking about the oilers would pry you out I agree with your assessment, but had no idea he was 200lbs, does not look or play like it. Your right tho, kids got heart.

He's added a lot of grit to his game

Fights now and then too. Whatever role he's asked to play he will.

I get the feel the kid is tired of losing.

He's at it right now. The guy has played 6 full seasons in the NHL with some decent linemates and has scored at the same pace as Bozak.

I almost sh!t my pants when the Sportsnet fools said it would take more than Dion to get him from the Oilers. They've been trying to trade him for literally 3 years.

- djamon

This. Every Oiler fan has been throwing him in his fantasy proposals for years.

Taking Gagner now would be the definition of buying high. He's the last thing we need right now, and his style is better suited to the Western Conference, anyway.

I think he's best suited for a 2C role
- robin_steele264

me too, and we already have 2 of those, is my point.

I like Gagner, but not on the same team as Kadri and Grabovski. Doesn't make any sense.

now, if we send you lads Grabo and bring in Gagner, that might be something to think about.

Yeah...he's 200lbs like Kessel is 200lbs. Maybe 185 soaking wet.

Gardiner is an elite talent who actually scared the Bruins every time he touched the puck. The kid has vision to skate the entire ice. I'm not comparing him to Bobby Orr or Coffey, but I think he will be a future hall of famer.

- stevecarpetman

ROFL! While he certainly has a chance to develop into an elite player, predicting a HoF career at this point is outrageous. *shrug, at least you didn't pull a Cloutier, and predict a HoF career before the player plays his first NHL game.

He is. He cares. Many Oil fans want him to be captain

I think they'll keep him around anyways.

Oh for (frank)s sakes... my bad

then absolutely it's a bad move. Compliance him.

- Big_Lightnin

After crunching the numbers they will have to.
save the 3.6 cap hit they have currently.

Will give them roughly 10mil in space with 18 signed

oh..and Bozak and clarkson would take it all

I disagree. There are teams who need the Cap hit, he's only being paid $3.5m. He's definitely good enough to take a flyer on and throw on the bottom pair for one year. The cost of a 7th rounder is almost non-existent.
- djamon

not really.

I'm pretty sure that if Komi could be traded, he would have been by now.

anybody who wants him knows Leafs would take and AHL salary dump for him.

It ain't happening.

Is it too soon to pull out that blog where he compares the "big five" youngsters to Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Kurri, and... I forget who else.

I do vaguely remember something about Justin Schultz scoring 100 points in a season.

I could see that. Just doesn't seem like a good trade for either team. He's good but I agree with Leafs fans that it would take Gagner+ to get Gardiner, where oilers feel it would take Gardiner+ to get Gagner.

You're probably right. But I know there's worse guys in the NHL right now. Sh!t...Wade Redden got post-season minutes.

But to waste a Compliance on the guy is a mistake, IMO. Unless we have an immediate and specific use for the Cap space, and no other way to make it, it's a complete waste to use it.

Trading Gagner now opens a huge hole at center for the Oil

that's quite true actually

The only trade I could see happening, with the departure of Horcoff as well, for Gagner would be Bozak.

Why would a team trade for him (I'll remind you - they could have had him for free last year when he was put on waivers) when they know they can just sign him for peanuts as soon as the Leafs buy him out?

As per what someone else said (edit: Bixll), he'll get a tryout with the Islanders next year. If he catches on (and I sincerely doubt it) he'll sign for 1 year X $1 million.

He's simply too slow to play in today's NHL.

For a few years, Gagner, Omark, and a 2nd was practically the motto in Oil Country.

It was their equivalent of Gunnarsson, MacArthur, and a 2nd.

Not terrible, IMO. But does the 7th really have THAT much value? I hate Grabs right now, but I think we're still hoping he'll bounce back next year into a productive player. Prior to this year he's been better than Gagner.

I think Gardiner has a huge ceiling.
