That's the fun part. Don't know yet.

Ashton/Biggs/Stalberg/BrunnerMcClement/Gordon

Move Kadri to the wing if we get a top line center?

Swing a trade with St.Loius? They seem to have a team full of solid 3rd line typey guys

- walshyleafsfan

Gordon would be nice, but we'd need to buyout Grabs first.

Biggs will need a couple more years.

Ashton's a long shot

THIS is all I've been getting at. I personally think Frattin is a better winger than all those listed. Not sure how any of them are third liners for sure but Frattin is all of the sudden a fringe NHLer? I just need his position to be filled adequately for me to be ok with this trade.
- markmark

You may also be over-hyping Frattin. I'd rather have McClement for what he brings to the PK and just overall responsibility. Would also rather take the chance and give it to Colborne...big kid with a ton of heart. Played through a very serious wrist injury and never once cried about it.

Frattin is 26 or 27, JUST cracking the NHL and was garbage after he came back and missed a HUGE opportunity to put the Bruins away. I like Frattin and think he'll fit in really well with the Kings 3rd line. He'll get the odd shot on the 2nd line.

A solid trade for both teams for sure.

A lot bixll in sherry

After 25 years of marriage, I'll take the Sherry, it is far safer and easier on the wallett

It's totally hype.
But there's a feeling that the hype with this particular player is merited.
Nobody dislikes Reimer and of course nobody wanted him traded prior to this trade. But in a position that really only has one slot available, it's made Reimer potentially available to trade for the exact assets you mentioned above.

No different than if they traded for a #1 centre...people would start saying "trade grabo" or "don't resign Bozak"

- Juice

I don't see the need as much there either. Bozak is alright, The defense has been, and IS the main problem.

Ashton's gonna have a camp that make a lot of people forget about Frattin pretty quickly.

quote me on that.

My point is Frattin doesn't leave a huge hole in the lineup. Particularily if they are able to sign Clarkson.

If not, we need to hope somebody steps up. But I have no problem moving Grabo to wing and putting Colborne in the 3C with Kulemin-Colborne-Grabo

like that a lot actually (given what we have.)

- Big_Lightnin

I hope Ashton gets something finally going. He hasn't been able to do much at the AHL level let alone the NHL. If he finally lives up to his hype, he would be exactly what Id want on the 3rd line.

Grabo could use the space and Clarkson would love to tap in a bunch of crappy goals.

So it is a general assumption that Clarkson is signing here?

- Juice

around here it is anyways

i gave up trying to remind people he is still the devils property lol

I don't see Clarkson as much more than a really good third liner personally. Think he can jump into the top 6 sure, but he's not in the same class as Kessel, lupul, JVR and, jesus, I can't even remember who's on our team anymore.
- mykokes

you need to watch him play.....

And yet you make an excellent point!

Initial point was Frattin wasn't a shoe in to even be in the Leafs lineup come Opening Night.

- Big_Lightnin

I'd agree with that.
He'd likely have got a spot, but he also didn't get one after training camp...needed the smack in the ego.

i dont mind that he's big on reimer.. not at all.

but he hasnt proven anything to date that makes me say "yes, he's our starter"

- Dozzer

100% agreed.

He's done a lot to show promise and hope. But nothing to solidify anything.

Was talking to a buddy at work about Reimer and he was saying how Reimer is proven...I said that even with this full 82 game season coming up and good stats I still wouldn't consider him proven just yet. Needs another 2 full seasons and some playoffs.

If anybody thought the Leafs could get Bernier for ONLY Frattin, Scrivens and a 2nd, EVERYBODY would have said "Do the Trade NOW!!!"

I thought for SURE they wanted a 1st rounder for him.

If you told me this deal was possible after Game 5, I still would have said do it, and that was when REimer saved the series.

It is and EXCELLENT trade that at the very worst upgrades the backup goaltending position.

Bernier's upside is MILES above Frattin's and Scrivens'. Period.

- Big_Lightnin

This is why I was against the rumours.

Phaneuf for Stastny? Pass. Stastny's numbers have dropped for the past couple of years. While Phaneuf is still putting respectable numbers. He's worth more.

Clarkson scored 15G this year (25G pace over 82 games) and 30G last season

Only Kessel beats that...

AND- he was on a 23G pace in 09 before he broke his leg and missed the rest of the year... then had an off year cause he couldn't train in the summer, had to rehab instead.

This guys the real deal.

He has enough issues trying to keep his #1 goalie status at the moment. Just signed Bernier, no time for trying him on the wing.

he isnt very good at handling the puck.. he still needs to spend more time on his glove hand.. then this year he started moving his stick out of the way when he dropped into the butterfly exposing his five hole a lot.

the kid has some skills but he is nowhere near being a defacto starter in the NHL.

Cool, I guess we'll see. We won't know the full scope for at least a year. We can discuss whats gone on then. I think it backfires but we'll see.

Clarkson is a late bloomer. He plays like Dustin Brown and has top 6 skills. And we could park him in front of the goalie on the PP. He would be a good fit as would Horton.

Not asking this to be female dogy, honest.

Has he really ever been hyped?

29th pick in the first round, and I never heard anything about him after that.

He was absolutely invisible when he played for the Leafs.

I doubt he'll ever play for the Leafs again.

I just don't see any value to this guy.
