He did the job though, and the contending Kings are rolling with him if Quick gets hurt.

11-14-2-2 record with the Leafs.

Top 20-25 is a safe argument. I say argument because he's so easily up and down. He'll go stretches when he's clearly not a top dman and then suddenly 10 games later you realize he's played awesome and merits the discussion.

I didn't like Franson after the 2011-2012 season...seemed like he felt like he should have a spot even though he hadn't earned it. He even kind of admitted that he didn't have his heart as into it as he should've. But yes, he grew leaps and bounds this season, was awesome to watch him get better and better.

Thanks Brett Lebda!!!

We should start chanting that. (Poor guy)

I highly doubt that. He's backing up Quick and likely getting 12 games in.

- coolehmon41

So your crystal ball says quick cannot get injured? If he does, they have Scrivens. It's a fact. Lombardi isn't an idiot, he knows scrivs can play. You really think they'de take that gamble? These guys have won cups my friend.

I'm as big a Reimer fan as you'll find out there... but the Leafs can't afford to put the players feelings ahead of the club's progression... they done in the past and it resulted in such stellar memories as the Muskoka Five, Domi being resigned when he should have retired, multiple NTCs being handed out, and generally overvaluing of assets.

Reimer will get his chance to continue as the #1 in Toronto, but really would have been the case had they brought Luongo in for example, Reimer slips up once, has one bad game and Luongo "gets" the net given to him.

Bernier is an upgrade over Scrivens - period. There's no goaltending controversy, Bernier hasn't proven anything at the NHL level, and he hasn't played behind the Leafs AHL defense. Reimer has.

- BorjeFan4Ever

exactly...how is it a controversy to have two good young goalies?
so, I guess the Leafs better not look for an upgrade at centre...we don't want a controversy over having two good centreman....
FINALLY the Leafs are trying to secure and solidify the one position that has been brutal for almost a decade and people are worried about losing a back-up goalie heading towards UFA at years end and a 25 year-old third liner????

They still know he could get injured. If you have Bernier you have insurance no? So they obviously believe Scrivens can play well enough if called upon, just like he did in TO.
- aminnes

What exactly are you crying about? Do you think Scrivens is better than Bernier? If not, we have a better backup if Reimer wins the job. Do you think Frattin is a big deal?

This deal is about upside. Nonis and Carlyle think Bernier has more and were willing to pay a fairly moderate price to see if that is the case.

Oh totally agree, I do think Scrivens is a solid backup. And i think Frattin helps their top 9. and odds are the kings will use that 2nd round pick to add a d-man or something. It was a good hockey trade.

Sutter, who has won some cups mind you, said a backup needs to be 500 to be a great team, he wasn't far off on a way worse team in TO. He'll be very good in LA.

My sources (tsn radio) are telling me the Avs and Leafs are discussing a major trade with the key pieces being Paul Stastny and Dion Phaneuf.

Personally, I would rather keep Elisha Cuthbert around...

Oh I'm not saying Quick wont get injured. If its a day-to-day injury then Scrivens will play a few games in a row. If its an LTIR injury, Lombardi will make a move for a better option after 4 losses in a row

Cup winners have to compromise sometimes as well. Just because they won a cup doesn't mean every move they make will be a successful one.

No, they wasted those assets on an area that was already fine - for once! D is the issue, not wasting assets on a area that has actually become a strength on the team.

I would have left it alone. Bernier isn't here to be a backup he made that very clear. He's here to try and run Reims out, why make the trade? pointless, move those guys for some d.
- aminnes

Philly always drafts centres, Philly always needs goalies......don't worry, one day Bernier or Reimer will get more from Philly than any of those 3 assets we gave up in this deal.

so you thought a third liner, a back-up goalie heading to UFA and a pick is going to get you a top four d? Or perhaps a number one centreman?
umm....no.
