The Fourth Period reports the Vancouver #Canucks are shopping Keith Ballard
I actually laughed out loud, Gillis is a moron beyond morons

I think that means they took him to a mall, and hoped he got seperated from them and lost.

True. We should be trading Gardiner for Stastny.
- markmark

It will be Phaneuf, not Gardiner.

If we knew with certainty what Can Barker would become, would anybody in his right mind draft him at #3?

Brian Lee at #9 is not a bust?

The guy eats popcorn in Tampa Bay's press box for a career. For a top 10 pick, he's a bust.

The original argument was whether or not Hamilton could fill Chara's place. The odds of Hamilton living up to his draft ranking are worse than a coin flip if history is any indication.

And why are the late 90's invalid? If you look last those years, you'd see that scouting looked pretty damn good back then, too. There were years when over half the first rounders played long careers. That's more than you could say about some of today's drafts.

- Leeman4Gilmour

we actually did the math on this a while ago and the % of successful 1st rounders are quite a bit higher in the last 10 years than the previous 10 years.

EDIT: IO had more written but deleted it, and don't care enough to rewrite it.

shame on you for putting Bourdon in there though

Do you guys think there is anyone in the 4-7 draft spots willing to move it? (NAS, CAR, CAL and EDM)

Id be willing to move Gardiner + #21 + if it meant a shot at either Monohan or Barkov.

Edit: This is also assuming Reilly isn't too far off.

I'd do Gardiner+21+ for #5 in a heartbeat. (Again assuming Reilly will be good to go in a year max)

rielly is two or three years away yet.. he didnt light up the AHL in his brief stint by any means

rielly will be in junior next year then the marlies the year following, afterwards will be his first real chance to make the leafs

as for gardiner plus 21 for 5?

massive overpayment. out of three asset only 1 has proven to be able to play at the NHL level. no way i swing that deal.. not in a million years.

If we trade Phaneuf we will be throwing our shiny new goalie to the wolves. Everyone loves to rip on him for his mistakes, but no one gives him credit for what he's good at. He keeps big power guys like Malkin, Ovi, Kovalchuk, etc. in check and always has. But he makes a bad pinch or gets burned by a speedy, smaller player and that's all people notice.

There could be other factors at play, as well. I think the biggest change is that the salary cap forces teams to play rookies more because they come cheap.

It's much easier to crack the lineup as a rookie today than in the 90's when the mythical 35+ year old player was still around. Today, a guy hits 35 and he's practically cast off to some nursing home.

I honestly think shinkaruk will be the steal of the draft. Plays C/RW and is ranked almost to go 15th overall, to move up and try to get this guy i would be happy since we would pay less anyways

true.

I added to the last one... Bourdon should not have been called a bust. Nucks fans would have lost their poop for that one... kinda offside.
