Would you trade Stepan for him? Id have a tough time doing that. Just don't think brassard would be enough.
- Slimtj100

No, Thornton is slowing and he is a UFA next year. To be honest, trading Brassard for him is a win now move, because Brassard has alot more miles left in the tank than Thornton does. I would do Brassard for Thornton, but I would do it knowing that I could get totally burned by the trade.

Either to keep Clowe or bring in Ryder.
- aecliptic

Or, let's just go crazy and bring in the Elias to play the left side with Thornton and Nash ... several years later after he almost signed that Rangers contract. Just kidding, but a left winger is where the teams primary need lies, IMO.

I guess the age factor is where sj would be intrested. I wonder if sj couldn't get more for him tho

another example:

Brodie Brazil @brodiebrazilCSN

Marty Havlat had surgery, no timetable on his recovery. Makes him ineligible for buyout. #sjsharks

Not at all.. we have Hagelin, Kreider, Clowe and Pyatt on LW... and Nash who can play both sides.

Those 4 left wingers had a collective total of 21 goals last year. I would prefer another nomadism top 6 scoring threat on the left wing.

I might be in the minority but I would trade Hags for Glencross.
- B2B76

Terrible terrible trade, Glencross is older and stands out on a bad team, no thanks

I am all for Richards coming back if we can put him in a bubble. To much risk with that crazy cap hit.

Also the pressure he's going to be under to have a bounce back season and either not be bought out or showcase himself for another team, either way he'd be playing a season with the writing on the wall

I see a lot of different rosters being lobbied about, let me remind you all what the turnover did to this team's chemistry after last off season, we do need to revamp or tweak the bottom 6 though

I think AV will at least want to see Richards on the ice with his own eyes.

the Rangers have already showed they are concerned with the injury aspect of it when they wouldn't even let Redden play in Hartford once the season started in January.

With all these new potential free agents through buyouts....I already put in to take off work July 5th. I got my priorities in line

Yea that is a good point. I mean even if Richards had a above average year last year they would still have to consider hard about buying him out. To me it isn't even about his production, but his cap hit could destroy the franchise.

I can't remember the last time I played monopoly where I failed to use my get out of jail free card.

Yea I don't see any major changes. Although I said that last year, and then Nash happened.

My company just voted to take the day off as a furlough day. I know what I will be doing.

Is there a free agent frenzy show like they have on trade deadline day? That would be awesome

Heres the thing, if youre gonna buy out Richards next year, and you know youre going to do it, just do it now... why chance it?

The problem with signing Clowe and a guy like Ryder, leaves little wiggle room for next year when the rangers need to spend money to keep Callahan and Girardi.

For the reasons that you mentioned, the idea of signing one or two older veterans who may be willing to sign relatively wealthy one year contracts is appealing. Just don't want to commit to Ryder long term, and I like Clowe, but his rumored asking price was insane.

I can see the Rangers trying to clear out some of the brush at the bottom of the roster, Powe, Pyatt, et, and upgrading with some jam guys -- Hendricks, Satan's spawn, et.

Thing is they only have Staal, Dorsett, Richards and Nash signed passed next year... Assuming Richards is gone, thats only 3 players... leaving them with about 51 million to resign guys. Oh and Lindberg assuming he starts.

4.85 to McD, 4.25 to Step, 1.85 to Hag, 1.35 to MZA, 3 to Clowe, 3.5 to Ryder

total for the guys... 19.56 million... leaving 31.44 to do some resigning.

Cally 5
Hank 7.5
Girardi 4.25
Kreider 2.75
Moore 2.5

Thats 22 million... leaving us with 9.44 million...

And you gotta figure the salary cap will increase next season, lets say approximately 3 million, with all these outdoor games juicing the nhl revenue... so 12.44 million to do more signings.
