Whoever they draft with the 5th pick, if they got it, will most likely be starting the season on the roster...
Barkov at 3C, Drouin probably at 2LW, Nichushkin probably on the 2nd or 3rd line wing, he plays both sides. - aecliptic
its a big IF for that pick by the way. |

Absolutely... Im not expecting to get it. A little virtual GM going on here. If they do manage to get a 1st round pick, I doubt its in the top 10.
However, it might seem like a lot, but if I was in Sather's shoes... Id offer up quite a bit to get that #5 because there are 6 guys there that look like franchise players.
The starting point for my offer to Carolina would be MDZ and the 1st round pick next year. |

I have terrible vision, I cant see anything without glasses, so trust me, I know exactly what its like.
Maybe they can make some custom sports glasses he can wear on the ice. - aecliptic
I think you are assuming way too much that Staal will be ok, I hope your right but I don't think so. This was a terrible injury to which the depth won't be fully known for a few years down the line. |

We're hoping Dylan McIlrath makes the squad on D this coming year. He was our 1st rd pk in 2010, its time. He's a bruiser & we need that. |

I think im in the minority with the positive thoughts. He might not be a #1 dman anymore but he'll still be fine in the top 4 imo. |

Sure his vision wont be perfect ever again, but he played at such an elite level that his instincts will guide him and he will still be a top notch defenseman. |

No, maybe and no. Ference, due to his extensive experience with successful teams, would be the only one from this list I would consider.
Zidlicky and Whitney are human turnstiles. |

Keep in mind, I am rooting for a triumphant Staal return but I say that to say this: I don't think he will be nearly as effective as he was. Damaged vision, for a top notch athlete, has to be worse to overcome than any other non-paralysis damage.

I dont know why people keep bringing these 2 up...
Did we not get enough of Brian McCabe when he was here? |

I have my doubts he will be a #1 Dman again, however, I think he can be a top 4 Dman...
Hes just too smart and has such elite instincts that they will help him over come and adjust to the vision. |

If move one of your defensemen in a deal for a forward, maybe the Rangers will be in the market for a low cost 4-5-6 defensemen. Otherwise, I see no need for that type of player. |

Who needs vision, anyway? He should go all Jean Claude VanDam from Blood Sport. |

That doesnt say much when a player is credited for playing well against an anemic, dump and chase offense. |
