It says Carolina is looking for a top 4 D, fielding calls on the 5th overall pick. I have been a huge DZ supporter and still don't want to trade him but hypothetically if there is a big time offensive prospect available at 5, do you send DZ to Carolina with a prospect for 5th overall? Or do you think Carolina wouldn't consider it? - pcjr307
Oh I think it will take more than DZ to get the 5th overall pick. This looks like the perfect opportunity for the Rangers to possibly unload Staal on them.
The thought of getting the 5th overall pick? DROOOOOOLLLLL

I wasn't sure if Carolina would be interested right now until they see Staal in game action. DZ is only 22, plays top 4, low salary. Pair him with a pick and a prospect maybe if there is someone at 5 the Rangers really want.
I would hold off trading Staal right now cause everyone is going to try and rip the Rangers cause of the eye injury, value wise. I would wait to see how he looks, hopefully is back to normal and then try to extend him. If he won't extend, then trade him.
I don't know if Tortorella would be interested in Boyle for Kassian but I would look into it. Although I have to say for as much as I ripped on him, Boyle played really well in the playoffs and was good on face offs which they need help in. What about Christian Thomas or like a B prospect and one of their 3rd rounders for Kassian?
Not related to this but I know it was mentioned about signing Matt Hendricks. I think that would be a nice addition for the 4th line. - pcjr307
Yea me and Pete are on Hendricks bandwagon. He'd be a solid addition. Good glue guy

Same cross crease power move to the net. He has the potential to be the best player in this draft, but may drop because if the Russian factor. Sure hope he isn't there at number 9.

Hes not bound by any KHL contract and he is supposedly looking forward to playing in the NHL.
Yeah, I understand, but some of the GMs still think we're fighting the Cold War. Don't think he'll drop far, however. - Pete V
TSN ranks him #6, and I expect him to go around there. Lowest he will drop is 8 to the Sabres, they wont pass on talent like that, especially since theyre trying to move Vanek.

I think it's going to be impossible for us to trade into the upper first round of this draft without having our own first rounder, or second rounder, to offer as part of the package.
Hopefully we see massive amounts of trades starting ASAP though.

Teams can trade money now, should help a lot. - jimbro83
I think it's possible to put the pieces together, and hypothetically I would trade either Staal or DZ for the 5th pick, Cherapanov was taken from us and a chance at a talent like that or even Drouin or Barkov does not come along that often, this is a very good top 10
Words never before written: Can't wait for pre-season game. Vigneault/Rangers visit Tortorella/Canucks in Sept during MSG renovations. - jimbro83
Since I know I can't be objective because of my dislike. I was wondering what someone who supports Torts thought of his press conference yesterday. To me it was annoying how he said any job in NHL especially here in this province it was important to have relationship with the press. It cae across as phony to me and not sure why it would be more important in Vancouver then New York. Plus he said province a bunch of times not as much as process but like he wanted a gold star for knowing the difference between a state and province. Nottrying to be antagonistic just curious what someone who likes him thought.

The stuff about the media was pretty ridicolous, insofar as he was clearly told by the Canucks that they don't want that type of abrasive presence with the media. The stuff about what he did wrong in New York, I think was very candid.

I think if he is as stubborn as he was as our coach you can punch 2 tickets for the Sedins next offseason, his unwillingness to adapt to changing schemes will only hurt their offense

How does trading money thing work? Can a team buy another player like Vida Blue to Yankees or a team can keep a portion of contract on its cap. If team keeps cap hit what team pays actual salary?

Not knowing that much about Canuck players outside of their stats and the bigger player reps outside of Sedins any other player you see him clashing with? Are there d-men gonna be willing to block shots up to his liking and if not would you target any for trade? Or player like Burrows a little Sean averyish IMO.

Which begs the question, if he knew what he was doing would get him fired, why didn't he change while here? Unless, he wanted out. Hmm.
