I dont expect a huge trade, probably something medium sized with a decent player to make up for the Cally and Hags losses to start the year. - aecliptic
They are only supposed to be out the first few weeks or so, right? Yea, since Richards is likely staying--which I am ok with--there just isn't a lot of financial wiggle room to make any significant deals.
The Rangers can't continue to trade away picks and don't have a ton of trade chip type prospects to be able to get a substantial return. Which player(s) on the current roster can be used as trade bait to acquire some serious assets in return? Aside from Del Zotto I can't think of anyone else, that is expendable yet valuable, on the current roster. |

Well, a lot of the talk is with the assumption that Richards does after all get bought out.
I guess all that will depend on if and what kind of trade Sather wants to swing. Who knows, he might just want to trade Pyatt/Powe/Asham to get some dead space off the cap... and thats it. |

PS: I would love for the Rangers to trade into the 1st round and pick up Anthony Mantha.
6'5, 208lbs... scored 50 goals last year in juniors.
Negative is hes not an overly physical and aggressive guy with all the size, which is what we like and like... Ulfie (assuming he gets the job) shouldnt have a problem showing him how to make jam!
This draft is too deep for them not to get involved in some how and sit out til the 3rd round. |

I don't see a ton of activity in Ranger land, other than taking care of their own, this summer. - MidnightMarauder
I would be totally fine with that. They made a big splash with the coaching change.

The Rangers really only need another winger whether it be player like Clowe or Ryder. I think getting back into the 1st round would cost a valuable piece to this puzzle. Maybe DZ wouldn't hurt to lose, but teams would ask for guys like Hagelin, Miller or Kreider. |

I dont mind losing Hagelin. I dont see him getting much better than he is right now... and because of the MZA signing and if they sign Clowe, hes probably the 4th best LW we have behind Kreider, Clowe, MZA/Nash
Theres never a guarantee but if they trade Hagelin to get into the first round and draft Mantha, they replace a 5'11 winger for a 6'5 winger with 50 goals in juniors. |

Hagelin is better than Zuccs. He's faster and can play in any situation. Who would you rather have on the pk, Zuccs or Hagelin? |

On the PP? Zucc for sure.
Better passer, better shooter, can play the point.
Hagelin in 48 games amassed all of 1 goal and 0 assists on the PP... and nothing short handed.
Oh and... in 64 games last year, 0 PP points...
In 25 games between this year and last, Zucc's has more PP points than Hagelin does after 112.

They both have skills in limited ways, actually, I don't think either makes the team much better, but if I had to pick one I'd probably take Hagelin, but under no circumstances should both be on the team. |

Hagelin makes for a very good 3rd liner, if hes lined up with bigger guys... and a decent second liner because of his speed and hes not bad defensively. However offensively hes very rough around the edges, a decent passer, doesnt have a great shot.
MZA is primarily an offensive weapon. So when asking me who Id rather have on the PP, most definitely rather have MZA. But defensively and against the boards, although he battles hard, he will get beat. |

we tried it when i still lived in NJ so ~3 years ago and everyone bailed last minute
Basically what the plan was was to head to NYC for a sat/sun game vs say the devils and watch it at brother jimmy's bbq, any age can get in. Once they release the schedules i'll put up some feelers for it, even though i'm not as active on this thread anymore (life/work/etc taking up too much time lately lol) |

Got this off of roto world: (per nhl.com)
The Vancouver Canucks announced the hiring of John Tortorella as head coach Tuesday.
The Canucks will have a news conference later Tuesday to officially introduce Tortorella, who was fired by the Rangers after the season. Ironically, Torts replaces Alain Vigneault, who replaced him in New York. It will be interesting to hear what Tortorella learned from his time in New York and how he plans to adapt his defense-first gameplan to fit the Canucks' roster, specifically the Sedin twins.
--------------
I thought adapt wasn't in his vocabulary? Sorry twins!! |

Is it me, or does anyone else find it more than a little strange the Rangers hired AV and the Canucks hire Torts? |

I find it strange that AV was fired in the first place. His record is great, and honestly, i blame management, not him, for the goalie issue and i think that played more of a factor in the underachieving than they are willing to admit and AV became the fall guy.
AV will be welcomed here in NY once we see how his style differs from Torts. I think we'll see CK20 bloom under him.
Torts to the nucks is honestly, a oh poop this is our last chance to win move. The hope is that Torts lights a fire under their collective asses and they play like they can. I honestly see him lasting 2 seasons max if they don't win a cup. Plus, looking at who was available, AV was the highest qualified and they just canned him, Torts was second followed by Ruff and Eakins a fourth only cause he was an unknown. No doubt Ruff would not work in Vancouver though so Torts was the likely replacement even if Slats went with someone else. |
