we could trade 1 or 2 of pyatt or asham which can free up to over $3 mil in cap space i think. - rangerdanger94
Problem is nobody in their right minds wants those guys and Thornton is on the wrong side of his career, we should know before hand who looks like they would be another bust in NY and Thornton should be near the top of that list |

Would Vancouver be intrested, cuz of torts, in Boyle ? Maybe for Kassian. I know he struggles but he's a big winger and meaner then Boyle |

Maybe... he looks the type to be one of those slow growing power forwards. |

They could use a center and Boyle was a torts fav. It just crossed my mind he'd fit nice there. |

Kassian at one point in his hockey career was regarded as a highly sought after power forward prospect with 2nd line... possible 1st line potential. I dont know if he will every get there anymore as his focus has really shifted to the 'dirty' side of the game, but maybe given the opportunity to be productive and to get some PP minutes he might want to rekindle what he once had in juniors and the AHL.
I guess you can say hes got a bit of Hugh Jessiman in him thus far in his career... although Jessiman never succeeded at any level of the pros. |

I agree with your assessment. I think he'll end up being a Raffi Torres, Darcy Tucker type player. Solid third liner that provides some meanness to a team. Still young and on an entry level deal I believe. |

I think he still has something left on his stick if he can focus more on fundamental hockey and a little less on the dirty stuff.
Its not perfect, but if jam is what you want... jam is what youll get with Kassian. If he put his head to it, I think he can be a similar player to Horton. |

torts likes youth. torts like toughness, grit, and JAM.
torts will not let gillis trade kassian. not sure why they would consider doing it either. if anything, they need more players like him imo. |

@NYP_Brooksie: NHL has notified GMs that league will not allow player to be traded, amnestied and then re-signed by original club, Post has learned. |

This was Jimbo's brilliant idea. The league big wigs must be reading this blog. |

Apparently Torts and AV have spoken every other day for the past two weeks. Too smart guys that know that they can help each other.
And on a related note, Torts was so humble and self evaluative in his presser today, almost made me feel bad for hating on him the past couple months. - Pete V
He looked so phony it was disgusting. Said having a relationship with press is important for any job in the NHL. |

Anyone see the rumors that Vancouver and the Isles are deep in discussion for Luongo with the Canucks interested in either Martin, Czikas and Niño, with swapping 1st rounders, would love to see the Isles make that mistake and give away one of Martin or Czikas |

Thats so moronic, why not just wait and see if VAN buys out Luongo. Its not like Luongo wont be there to trade for if Gillis isnt bluffing about not buying him out. |

Do you think he's salivating at the chance to coach Brian Boyle again? |

I think so too. I watched some Vancouver games and at times Kassian looked really good out there. The Rangers could use someone like him, would be a nice addition for the bottom 6 for now, possibly top 6 if he develops later on. I see Torts wanting to keep him around though. |

That's why I brought him up. He just seems like hes dragged ass since he was drafted. Maybe they could get him cheap |

I don't know if Tortorella would be interested in Boyle for Kassian but I would look into it. Although I have to say for as much as I ripped on him, Boyle played really well in the playoffs and was good on face offs which they need help in. What about Christian Thomas or like a B prospect and one of their 3rd rounders for Kassian?
Not related to this but I know it was mentioned about signing Matt Hendricks. I think that would be a nice addition for the 4th line. |

It says Carolina is looking for a top 4 D, fielding calls on the 5th overall pick. I have been a huge DZ supporter and still don't want to trade him but hypothetically if there is a big time offensive prospect available at 5, do you send DZ to Carolina with a prospect for 5th overall? Or do you think Carolina wouldn't consider it? |
