The Doors are much more overrated than Led Zepplin imo. A lot of the attention Zepplin gets is due to the fact that Jimmy Page is generally regarded as one of the great rock guitarists of his generation, if not all time. The Doors can make no such claim about anyone in that band. In fact, most of their music is pretty much beginner level difficulty. Not saying they suck or anything like that. I actually like both bands. But the overall quality of their musicianship is not even in the same class as Zepplin.

Granted, Morrison wrote some pretty interesting and trippy lyrics, but their instrumental work is pretty basic. So while Zep does tend to get a lot more love from the critics than they may deserve, they at least had quality, innovative musicians in their band. Same can't really be said for the Doors.

I disagree somewhat. The Doors were outclassed by LZ, but I still think they were pretty unique and special. I'm a guitarist and I think each of the Doors displayed pretty impressive musicianship at times. Kreiger had that rockabilly Chuck Berry, Richard Dale fusion sound and Manzarek was adept creating a variety of soundscapes on keys to set the tone...Densmore was really good with that signature snare and an acute dynamic sensibility which allowed him to add drama or subtle touches and Jim's crooning vocals were a point of distinction versus the bands of the time. Yeah, some of the songs were simple blues or whatever, but others were not exactly rudimentary...they had more sophisticated arrangements at times with some good improv jams (live). If you look at it, their body of work includes a wide variety of styles and sounds...Roadhouse Blues to Spanish Caravan to Wild Child to The End...When the Music's Over, Waiting For the Sun, Peace Frog, Soul Kitchen, The Crystal Ship, 20th Century Fox, the WASP...all great tunes imo. I don't get all carried away with Morrisson and the Lizard King and that whole trip, but I just think they were a great band around for too short a time...

I dig Peace Frog. The Doors are very much a mood band for me, and nobody can argue they created a unique sound, something not a lot of other bands can claim.

One of my favorite bands from "back in the day" is Styx. First song I ever heard which really captured my imagination was Renegade. I loved the slow intro that grew into something much more.

The Hawks have about $2mm under the cap, and they have to re-sign, or replace, Bickell, handzus, Stalberg, Kruger, Leddy, Mayers and Rozsival.

They just signed Finnish goalie Antti Raanta to a contract that will count against the cap even if he's playing in AHL.

Not sure they will re-sign Emery at all.

- Jsaquella

Don't believe that is the case. His deal is a two way EL, and his minor League salary is only 70,000.

Here is the rule:

BURIED CONTRACTS (Wade Redden Rule)

Money paid to players outside of the NHL counts against the cap.

A one-way contract counts against the cap as follows:

cap hit – [ minimum salary + $375,000 ]

Example: If Wade Redden plays in the minors in 2012-13, he counts as follows.

$6.5M – [ $525,000 + $375,000 ] = $5.6M

A two-way contract counts as follows:

minor-league salary – [ minimum salary + $375,000 ]

Example: Player A’s two-way contract pays $3M/$1M in 2012-13 and counts as follows in the minors.

$1M – [ $525,000 + $375,000 ] = $100,000

Must be a good day to be a blackhawk fan. I still can't believe that game last night. I swore I fell asleep and made that ending up. Crazy stuff.

As long as management is patient the cup is coming. Just have to wait a few years.
- jstross

The cup is coming? Sure, at some point in the future we're bound to win another one. However, it won't be anytime soon unless changes are made with the team.

No one else fears signing Giroux to a long term deal? I'm scared of what Homer does with players with long term deals and no no-trade clauses (he's too young to get one).

This in no way means I would not sign him longer term.

I just hope some of the giant holes on the team are going to get solved, and not patched.

I've never really lamented the entire Kane/JVR situation. Sure it's frustrating to sit through a trainwreck season like that and not get rewarded, but such is life.

My issue is more with all the mind numbing stupid trades. Giving guys like Sharp, Justin Williams, Bob among others away for literally nothing is hard to swallow.

I get the bad trade with Sharp - that was horrendous - however, at the time we traded J. Williams, we were desparate for a Defensemen and Markov did his job here.

Yeah....that's what makes it hard to watch lately. Sharp was a flyer, but Hitch was a jackass and hated him because he didn't play defense. Good eye idiot.

Williams for markov was a steal considering WIlliams was severly injury prone, they just made the trade worthless by not bringing him back.

Age has nothing to do with getting a NTC anymore. I don't fear it, I hope for it.

They got rewarded. They got JVR, then turned that into Luke Schenn. Maybe there wasn't a potential superstar there, but that's the way it goes.

Every team has bad trades in it's history.

I hear you on that (I was at many of those train wreck games.....just brutal).

But just Patrick Kane alone wouldn't help this team.

Gotta hand it to the Hawks. They've developed their people, made good trades/signings, and now they have two Cups. They also had to go through a number of years where they just plain sucked.

Markov only played 30 or so games + playoffs as a Flyer. Hard to give up a talented youngster like Williams for what turned out to be a strict rental. Oh well water under the bridge at this point.

Yeah. They had some lean years. They have been very smart the last 5 years. They obviously have the right people in place now making hockey decisions. Toews is a fantastic player, when you have talents like Kane, Sharp, Hossa and stud blueliners like Keith and Seabrooke on the backend, the results are what you see. Crawford has been very solid on goal too.

Don't see how the end result of a 56 point season is a dman who's ceiling is to be a # 2 is being rewarded. But of course you would argue the sky's not blue.

A #2 defenseman is a valuable player. Luke Schenn has a chance to be a key member of this team's defense for a lot of years. Like I said, maybe it's not the superstar that is available at #2 a lot of years, but that's the breaks. I choose to be positive instead of being constantly pessimistic.
