I believe the reason why this deal has a good chance of getting done is in particular over the last couple of years the Flyers haven't exactly gone into "stealth mode" when trying to make trades. Outside of the Mike Richards trade and probably Grossmann, all of the other trades were already in the media - Versteeg, Carter, L. Schenn, Bryz, Weber.

Speaking of L schenn I think he's gonna have a monster season next year

Amazing how he jumped up to being a favorite of so many. Hes just a guy you dont have to worry about. Hell do his job, destroying some people along the way. The skating thing was way blown out of proportion, looked fine. I hope his brother rebounds, which I think he will. Its such a special thing to be able to play with a sibling in pro sports and these guys seem to get that and will do everything they can to take advantage of the opportunity.

Yup. Should the Nucks drag their feet buying out Lu I could see us trading for Emery's rights in the next few days.
- hereticpride

Personally I wouldn't trade for emerys rights. I see him as more of a positional goaltender now more than one that had highly refined reflexes, hip injuries will do that to a guy. He would, in my opinion, give us the same production bryz has, at a fraction of the cost. But yeah I would just wait until free agency starts and see what he wants then.

Today was the autograpgh day at Scotty's last charity golf tournament, so I left work early, took my Hammer autograhed jersey and my Flyers golf bag and headed in.
There were 10 Flyers there(at least they are currently Flyers lol), and everyone signed my items and took a pic with me.
When you live in dirtlump Sask these opportunities don't happen often, so it was very cool, even for a cough cough, mature fellow like myself.

Side notes
Everyone was cool but I didn't care for Jody Shelley much.
Everyone really liked the golf bag and asked where I got it.
Schenn boys were the coolest.
Holtby had the longest line there. (I walked right up to Scotty)
It was a great day for a 40yr+ Flyer Fan !

That is terrible that the Hawks are 1/18 on the PP. How is that possible?

I was just doing this today. My 2 main points:

Trade for the #1 pick in 2005 no matter the cost
Trade to the top of the 2nd round in 2006 and take a shot on that Weber guy.

- jmatchett383

Umm...

That weber guy was drafted in 03.

After Nashville used their 1st round pick (#7) on Ryan suter.... Mebbe the flyers should trade 2 defensemen in the first two rounds

Will they have the cap room? He will get solid offers if he tests the market. Not sure they're gonna want to pony up that much for their backup.

If they do acquire Ryan for Coburn +, I wouldnt be surprised if they trade Simmonds or hartnell for edler.

Now that makes some sense. I go back to last summer. The organization decided it had a need for a top pairing, puck-moving d-man and top line winger. Hence, the pursuit of Suter and Parise, which I believe cost them the chance to resign Carle. Of course, later on came the OS to Weber to try and fulfill one of the above objectives.

My hunch is one strike shortened season with a miss playoffs appearance, maybe the objectives haven't changed this offseason.

if the flyers have the cap room to sign emery - the hawks definitely do. depending on health they can still CBO monty and/or olesz.

Coming down the stretch, has the appearance of one of those shot that goes off a d-man in front for the game winner, I'm predicting Rozival.

Leddy with 3 shifts so far, wow.

If I was gm of the hawks I would cbo hossa before either of those two guys. Hossas cap hit is pretty much equal to both of them, and oleszs contract is done after next year and montys is done the yr after that

The Hawks have about $2mm under the cap, and they have to re-sign, or replace, Bickell, handzus, Stalberg, Kruger, Leddy, Mayers and Rozsival.

They just signed Finnish goalie Antti Raanta to a contract that will count against the cap even if he's playing in AHL.

Not sure they will re-sign Emery at all.

Is capgeek right when they say 1.4 for raanta? If so, then yeah there's no way they can keep Emery.

They were in the same situation after their 2010 win
however they seem to let the right guys go. Maybe it's just the system they play. I wouldn't go after Bickell because of the cap hit he will likely carry. He reminds me of Buff, showed up in the playoffs and got overpayed. You are saying Emery, I seem to think that he benefits from the team defense the Hawks play. Strong defensive core and a group of forwards that hustle back. The flyers lack that. However, with that said I would take him for the right price.

I agree. I think they make the move to buyout Hossa.
