I guess you just trade down only to a point you can be sure he will still be available and cross your fingers? - heh49314
That's just it. I still think the oilers are trying a way to get Zadorov and Lazar, but I don't know that it's a good idea. |

the only team i would consider checking in with is columbus on that idea. several other teams has two 1st round picks, but looking at where the picks are standing right now, columbus makes the most sense. dallas two picks are too far apart. buffalo is not going to trade give up their 2nd 1st round pick just to move up one spot. |

2011-12 ~ Hall is OK, but Eberle is awesome! Eberle will be on the Olympic team, but Hall doesn't have a chance!
2012-13 ~ Eberle is OK, but Hall is awesome! Hall will be on the Olympic team, but Eberle doesn't have a chance! - laughs2907
And also:
2011-2012 ~ Eberle and Nuge are the real talents on the Oilers. Hall isn't close to their game and you should trade him while you still can. Gagner should be in the AHL.
2012-2013 ~ Eberle doesn't have the elite skill that Hall has. Hall is the only elite player on Edmonton, including Nuge. Trade them both before everyone realizes their busts. Gagner should be your 1C.
2013-2014 ~ Yakupov and Schultz are the future of the team. Hall, Eberle and Nuge have gotten too used to losing. Trade all three. Also, Sam Gagner should just retire.
2014-2015 ~ You guys traded all your prospects looking for the quick fix. Smart teams get skilled players in the draft. I told you Yakupov was going to bolt to Russia! What you guys really need is a Sam Gagner type of player. Why did you ever get rid of him? |

Just for arguement sake I go away from my usual just take the best guy theory.
How does one trade down and guarantee we still get Lazar? - Lahey
Very true. In my mind if we trade down to 12th we can guarantee we can take him but could risk going as far down as 20th. Would depend if the player coming back makes the risk worth it |

If we like Lazar, trade up instead of trading down. That's where having two 2nds and prospects can help you. |

that is true, but considering the positioning of columbus's first two picks, i check in with them and see. |

Am i the only one who sees Lindholm as the best option at 7? And to move up in this years draft with one or both our seconds seems to be a stretch. I just don't think we have the asset depth to pull it off.

I don't know who's going to be there at 7, so I can't say. |

No doubt, terrible player. Second best player from his draft year. Taken 6th overall. Hussles every shift. Willing to stick up for hiimself against much bigger stronger players.

ahhh, interesting. They have similar temperaments, I might have guessed.
For the record, I think Prock does have a point in that you'd expect the 2nd centre and 4th forward drafted in a draft to be a top line player, which Gagner will probably not be. In that sense he is a disappointment. He might have just carried his assertions a little far in his disappointment, especially given Gagner's age. |

Probably not. No team will need him for his skillset, but he'll be a useful player if he continues to grow.
Unlikely that the mythical perennial 20g 45a ~50% FO guy who can play PP and PK that many thought he'd become, but what I just described is an excellent 2nd line centre, so making good on some of that promise leaves a player that could be considered a 'need' if he can be had for a competitive price.
No one needs Stephen Weiss, but a lot of teams will be clamoring for him because he'll be pretty good bang for his buck. That's likely what Sammy will be like. |
