I used to be a bouncer at night clubs in downtown and saw some of these guys party. Fuhr was a mess near the end of his career from all those years of playing thru the pain.
Nice guy. |

I will give it my best guess.
1) you can sign contract extensions at anytime.
2) If a player is unsigned by the start of FA then you can try and land anothers.
3) see 3
4) You can sign UFA's at any point, however the last day for a compliance buyout is the 4th of July and it begins 48 hours after the cup is over.
5) You can trade at any point, however any player traded after the trade deadline is ineligible to play in the playoffs. Most teams don't trade during the playoffs as a courtesy to the teams still in it, however due to the shortened schedule some GM are making trades early due to their limited amount of time to get a lot done, i.e Gonchar, Streit and Bernier. - Meeqsb
This is close.
1. Is correct
2. If an RFA is given a qualifying offer he can't be touched by an offer sheet. Other than that we can send out one offer sheet at a time starting July 5.
3. correct
4. Correct July 4, 5 pm EST is the deadline for buyouts this year according to cap geek.
5. Correct.

You know I like the oilers- just being realistic. These really young UFAs almost always sign with the team that can give them the most playing the fastest.
Do you think Gus and Bozak grew up dreaming of playing for the Leafs, or saw an exciting, cup contending team when they signed?
They saw a good opportunity to get ice time, and prove their worth, same as Schultz with Edmonton- a team that features one of the weakest blue lines in the league. - Feeling Glucky?
This makes no sense. Schultz wanted a team that would give him top 4 minutes. Absolutely. However he has two close friends other than Gardiner in TO. One plays for the Rangers. The other in Edmonton. He could have played with Anahiem and had top 4 minutes on a team that has good talent. He could have played top 4 minutes for the rangers. In fact there are numerous teams he could have played top 4 minutes for. He chose Edmonton because of the young talent they have.
No Dman goes out and picks the weakest defense as their choice. It would kill their career. One guy is not going to save an entire team on the blue line. You go where you have a future and where you can play with people that are going to win. UFA's will sign for the same reason.
In the end our first line and schultz will be invited to try out for Canada's Olympic team. Yak will play for Russia. Who does TOR have of that caliber? Do you think Kessel will be at the olympics? |

And when a Leafs fan says "why can't we just replace all our UFAs with better ones" feel free to say the same thing. - Feeling Glucky?
We could likely be a far better team without signing one top 6 forward UFA. I think when he says "better ones", he means better versions of Jones, Petrell, Smyth, Belanger, Eager. Those kinds of players don't really get the luxury of being too picky and choosy. |

I highly doubt Schultz or Hopkins is invited to Team canada. Kessel will probably be on usa's first line. We don't know why he picked The Oilers lets just be happy he did and move on

Guys like Kaberle and Komisarek I'd invite to camp on a tryout, if they prove they still have it then maybe I sign them. |

Too much for Florida to give up to acquire Gagner. The value difference between Jones and Nurse (or if you prefer MacKinnon and Lindholm) is too far apart for a swap of Gagner and Bjudstad.
If you want the 2nd overall pick the deal would have to be something like:
Gagner, 7th pick
for:
2nd pick, rights to Weiss, conditional 2014 3rd.
Conditional that they sign Weiss.
It is a huge price for Edmonton to pay but to get another Franchise player to add to Hall - Nuge - Yakupov, you have to pay. Besides, Weiss is a great replacement for Gagner especially if it gets you Jones. - Steven_Dean
