Justin Schultz - Reveen
yea, a guy who signed with Edmonton specifically because they sucked and he wanted a good opportunity to prove himself. Same kinda scenario that saw the Leafs get Bozak, Gus, and Scrivens.
Not exactly the same scenario as signing guys who have proven themselves and want to... you know... win. |

if the leafs wanted a small 45 pt center that's useless when hes not scoring they should probably go and resign tyler bozak - HerpDerp
Bozak's pretty good on the PK. His problem is that he doesn't score enough.
But yea, keeping Bozak is definitely better than overpaying for Gagner.
I could, *maybe* see the Leafs trading their 1st for Gagner if there wasn't a good looking center prospect left at their pick. |

He had 26 offers, same money, and picked the Oilers.
Those are the facts we know. You made up those things you said.

IMO
he defiantly wanted a chance to play top minutes though, in TO he would have had a lot more competition for Ice time. Edmonton is also really close to home and has a lot of young offensive talent. He knew he'd get the top powerplay, rake up numbers and eventually get a good payday. |

You know I like the oilers- just being realistic. These really young UFAs almost always sign with the team that can give them the most playing the fastest.
Do you think Gus and Bozak grew up dreaming of playing for the Leafs, or saw an exciting, cup contending team when they signed?
They saw a good opportunity to get ice time, and prove their worth, same as Schultz with Edmonton- a team that features one of the weakest blue lines in the league. |

When was the last time Edmonton attracted any good UFAs? - Feeling Glucky?
Roughly the same time Toronto attracted a good one. |

Though McClemment was a damned good signing
The point is, poopty teams need to look in the the bargain bin for UFAs. They don't generally get to pick the cream of the crop, because those guys are looking to win, short term. |

I think the group he would be surrounded with in Edmonton is what sold him
Grow with the other guys his age.
Regardless, he had his pick of teams and choose the Oilers. That decision flies in the face of the whole 'nobody wants to play in Edmonton' theme people love. So I often see them justify his decision by saying he only went there cause they suck... More or less.
Anywho... Hope Mac has better luck landing a decent UFA or two now.

When it comes to depth players you can get good ones if you want to pay a bit more. |

All sought after young players choose non winning teams for playing time. It makes total sense. |

Dekyser other (frank)er that went to Vancouver kinda dismiss this. Gilroy went to the rags few years back.
It's really quite (frank)ing random |

I think Dekeyser signed with Detroit because it was close to home, yes, the Wings are a very good team year in, year out...but I believe if he was from good ol Alberta, the Oilers would have been his choice, it came down to Edmonton and Detroit didn't it? |

and if he had signed in Toronto, it would have been because of his undying love of Jake Gardiner bla blah.

According to MacT it was only Detroit from day one. When they took off and Dekyser was following them on the highway he had a Detroit license plate holder. |

But he didn't. Despite his buddy being there...
because Toronto couldn't promise the playing time. Hell, they couldn't even give it to Gardiner much of this year. |

Oilers promised him playing time and other teams didn't?
That's what swayed him?

I could see Carolina or Calgary take him
If that happens,
Could Edmonton take Lazar? I've actually heard that mentioned a couple different place that they REALLY like him
Maybe they'd try to trade down, since he'd likely be available mid-first? - jdfitz77
Chances are high that Lazar slips to the 2nd round. |

10 untouchables on a 24th placed team (would have been closer to 27th in a full season). something just doesn't jibe, man. i will be very surprised if MacT can acquire all these depth players without giving up any of these untouchables.
they will be a bottom third team again next year again, and Mact will be trading 2 of these untouchable next summer, effectively wasting another year watching and waiting.
exactly why did Tambo get fired, again? - seanjohn667
Thanks Kreskin... |
