don't care for lazar. i'd rather trade the 7th pick for immediate help than to trade down and pick another prospect that will take 2-3 years minimum development to make the team.

They could. And trading down the draft is probably one of the things in MacT's mind, although I agree to either draft a player or trade the pick for immediate help. My choice would be to trade down to acquire Columbus' 14th and 19th. And then I'd draft Gauthier and possibly Lazar. However, we need quality dmen. So with that in mind I'd like to take someone like Pulock. I like Lazar, he's great. But drafting two forwards isn't what we need to take out of this draft.

But, the upside to drafting Lazar would be that he's already played with alot of our prospects on the Oil Kings like Musil, Gernat, Ewanyk and Moroz. So in that sense he might have a bit of a connection with those players in a couple years in the AHL and maybe on the Oilers one day. Who knows.

There is not team in the world with seven untouchables. Not even teams that just won a championship. Ever. Anyone on the Oilers could be traded , no, make that some of the "untouchables" will have to be traded because its impossible to build a team entirely through the draft.


THe idea that you would be unhappy with a phaneuf for gagner trade is ridiculous. The Leafs would never do that, but the Oilers definatley would. They won't trade Phanuef anyways.

we didn't draft Schultz.
those teams that built through the draft didn't trade any of their core draftees (Chicago, Pittsburgh- staal wasn't traded till 3 years after they already had a cup)
they added pieces TO the core. not through it.

why do people find this concept so unbelievably hard to understand? how many times do I have to explain this to people? how many times so I have to explain that we DONT need to give up a star young kid for a piece that'll help? that the norm is NOT trading these guys for said pieces, that these deals typically get done for role players, picks, prospects etc

it's exasperating how such a large number of people hear a silly rumour or statement and then make it fact

however, we do have core players that we aren't looking to move as we plan on building around them and add complimentary pieces to help them

10 untouchables on a 24th placed team (would have been closer to 27th in a full season). something just doesn't jibe, man. i will be very surprised if MacT can acquire all these depth players without giving up any of these untouchables.

they will be a bottom third team again next year again, and Mact will be trading 2 of these untouchable next summer, effectively wasting another year watching and waiting.

I hope I'm wrong and you are right, but i think you are dreaming if you think its so easy to just fill half the roster with quality depth. acquiring the likes of Maxime Talbot, Mike Fisher, Johnny Boychuck, Alex Edler is not going to get down by offering Hemsky, Horcoff, Smithson, a 2nd round pick, Omark, Arcebello and Rajala.

i'll believe it's so easy, when i see Mact trade for a quality 2nd pairing D (like boychuck) with a Hemsky and 2nd round pick. aint happening.

I get the feeling the only way the Sabres move Myers is if they are getting a package of Klefbom + 7th.

Trading Myers straight up for a Nurse level player (or even adding an irrelevant piece) is a bad move for the Sabres IMO, yes there is a risk that Myers wont live up to his contract but this kind of move can haunt a team for a long time if done to rashly.
