Can someone please answer the following for me?
1. When can we resign RFA's?
2. When can we try to acquire other RFA's?
3. When can you pick up UFA's?
4. Is the cut-off date for resigning UFA's July 5th?
5. When can you officially start making trades? (I thought you couldn't trade players yet, but then today Bernier was traded to TO)
I've heard so much crap about this i don't know what's right or wrong anymore aha. - mbxiphos1527
I will give it my best guess.
1) you can sign contract extensions at anytime.
2) If a player is unsigned by the start of FA then you can try and land anothers.
3) see 3
4) You can sign UFA's at any point, however the last day for a compliance buyout is the 4th of July and it begins 48 hours after the cup is over.
5) You can trade at any point, however any player traded after the trade deadline is ineligible to play in the playoffs. Most teams don't trade during the playoffs as a courtesy to the teams still in it, however due to the shortened schedule some GM are making trades early due to their limited amount of time to get a lot done, i.e Gonchar, Streit and Bernier. |

fla: gagner + 7th pick
edm: bjudstad + 2nd pick - deks1
Trading 2 things for 2 better things? |

it's risky, trading gagner that is a consistent proven 40-50 pts 2c for a unproven big skilled centreman will potential to be a 2c. but i love the idea of getting the 2nd overall even if edm has to add another prospect. if that's the case, i'd also inquire about skille and theodore negotiating rights. - deks1
That's true. I'd just be happy with the second overall pick. And knowing that COL isn't taking Jones, we could (obviously) take him and he could possibly play on the roster next year, based on his skill level ofcoarse which we all know is to be very high. It'd be an upgrade to the D for sure. |

i guess thats your opinion of bjugstad value is higher than gagner. i already said gagner's proven record vs bjugstad's 11 total nhl games is risky on edm's part. maybe moving up 5 spots is costly and undervalued that idea, but definitely not gagner vs bjugstad at the present moment. plus i said if edm has to add, i would insist another prospect |

Plus the guy's huge. 6'6 and 220 lbs. And don't forget he plays for Florida. They were the worst team in the league this year and it's hard for talented players to shine on bad teams. As far as size goes, I'd definatly want him on our roster. But I'm just as hesitant to make that trade as everyone else would be. And once again, we'd still be getting the 2nd overall pick. You can't really go wrong. |

They would both be considered reliable NHL defensemen at a 5/6 role, depth the Oil haven't had in decades |

Exactly. They'd probably ask for a decent prospect too. But no way in hell would I give them Marincin. I'd offer Musil or Rajala or something. Plus if we're drafting Jones, we could throw in a quality D prospect. Not Klefbom or Marincin, but maybe even Fedun and Musil?
Sounds like a good deal for both teams. We get size up the middle and young, but immediate help on the blue line. And Florida gets a young promised centreman and a guaranteed future player from the 7th overall pick, not to mention the two prospects we'd include in the trade. They need it considering their list of prospects aren't too great. |

I'd pass on Kaberle. No hesitation. Not worth it.
If the Oilers trade Petry in some package deal for
a top Defenseman than I consider Gilbert. |

Well you're not getting Crosby for your 2nd overall pick. - mbxiphos1527
I never said anything about trading the #2 pick. But if we did trade it, it would be a trade that benefited us quite a bit more, and would include Klefbom. Edmonton doesn't have the ammo to pull it off. If we trade down, it will be no lower than 5. |
