So other GM's saw their team was not good enough and traded assets to go into a rebuild, while the Sabres GM continued to make this team average.
Not avoiding the question, you asked. I am supposed to be working. If i have time today i will do a little diggind. - ImThatGuy
Been our biggest problem for the last couple of years. Those two years post Drury Briere, if we had gone into a full rebuild we'd probably be cup contenders now considering the players that were available at the top of the draft. |

I agree, we have never been in rebuild we have never sucked like the bills we have been mediocre and that is worse than being terrible. |

Because we had owners before Pegula who felt making the playoffs was enough. Not to be contenders, just make the playoffs to try and break even. 05-06 and 06-07 were luxury seasons for them. Pegula wouldve opened his checkbook and kept every one of them. |

200% correct having 2 playoffs games is profit they only care about. |

I find it funny that we missed on being long term cup contenders because we didn't have the cash to keep everyone but now in order to be a cup contender again we have to do the exact opposite. Not knocking ownership or anything I just find it strangely amusing. |

No offense, but I do not buy this excuse. You mean to tell me that the Sabres had the only owner where a profit was the goal? |

no that is every owner, however, where I do fault Darcy is that he falls in love with his drafted players and gets to emotionally attached to them. Moves could have been made to free up more room. |

Every team has had picks like these. People who single out bad picks by a team clearly don't have any idea of how many successful players teams draft. - jc-13
small market teams need to hit on most of those picks or dish the picks off for proven talent
it's simple |

actually we missed because when briere and jp got the big arbitration awards, darcy was asleep at the wheel for the next 12 months
he went into panic mode and overpaid his lesser talent and allowed his top talent to walk

Dude how many times does it have to be said, Strome is absolutely not available let it go. - Sabresfan-365
Neither is Filip Forsberg...
Everyone is available......do you watch or just play NHL13? |

Yes, even though the sabres won the division after they left....
I don't know what is worse...Garth Blogs or Fan logic |

Im not saying Darcy is a terrible GM. IMO this team would be better off moving in a different direction. |

Whats there not to buy? The team was coming off 2 straight ECF appearances. 2 of our star players needed new contracts, and the owners stayed the course with the internal salary cap restrictions, no long term deals, tight with money.

Darcy not the worst GM, has done some decent things. BUT, I think the Sabres should go in a different dirction. I dont understand how else to say that? |

I am not sure how you gauge a GM....Not sure how many GMs trade away first round draft picks within the first 4 years they play. Not to mention I see a lot of sabres fans crying that Regier holds onto his players....
This isn't NHL13 if you want to understand the NHL better compare to all 30 teams not just the Detroit Red Wings |

no i missed it...maybe if you smashed you head some more? Yes you are right...your logic is definitely flawed
To think if you TRY to rebuild you automatically become a cup contender - toddkac
Regardless of state of the team it all comes down to simple things. Bad teams make bad decisions look at CLB Car etc time after time bad bad bad and good Gm's draft well and those teams continue to succeed. Darcy is a average gm hence why the team is also average |

No I meant if we had bottomed out those two years... I'm talking drafting top 5, top 3 or even 1st |
