Make fun of Leafs fans for hyping Gardiner yet your blogger hypes up Klefbom like he's the next Lidstrom. No way Oilers get Gardiner for a small soft center like Gagner.
- Smurfs-A-Joke

The only knock TO fans have on gagner is his height. Gardiner ain't better than Gagner. Doesn't matter if Gagner is 5'1.

Cool do you think I care how many people like the team l like, no I live in Alberta I'm used to begin around oiler fans who think all there players are better than they actually are
- 6Karlsson5

And I live in Ottawa, where I hang around Sens fans who criticize other teams, but fail to realize this is during the playoffs. Then Pittsburgh rolled along and (frank)ed up Ottawa. That sure made them shut up

I would rather have RNH over Gagner.

Gardiner + Reimer for RNH + ?

- brisc101

I wouldn't take any combination of TO players for RNH. Sorry not even a little sorry.

Horcoff for Trevor Daley... Discuss

You are almost as bad as the Leaf fans.

Kidding, I do not know anything about Daley, except he is a 84 on NHL 13

I think every fan thinks their organization's top defensive prospect, especially those picked top 20, have at least a 'good' chance of being a top 4 dman.

Am I wrong?

- Morris

Agree, but your saying gagner can get more than 50 pts when he has never done that, he probably will but he will be surround with offensive studs (RNH-Hall-Ebs-Yaks) so other saying Gardnier can be a top 4 defender is equivalent to saying gagner can get more than 50pts, all I'm saying is they are roughly equal, can we agree on that? I have no bias towards the subject, I hate the leafs cause I'm a sens fan and I hate the oilers cause I live in alberta and thats all I hear about...really annoying

This whole thread is retarded.

Firstly, The Leafs are not going to trade Gardiner. As far as they are concerned he is the next big thing among NHL Defencemen. Maybe, maybe not, only time will tell but he no doubt is going to be good.

Secondly, If Mac T chooses to trade Gags it will be only if they can trade for/sign a legit #2/1a Center before hand. He is not going to risk a 18yo rookie like Lindholm or Monahhan ,Anton Lander,Marc Arcobello and Ryan Smyth as his Center icemen to start the season.

Thirdly, if the Oil do land a D via trade, he should be a different type than Gardiner, I would think. A strong steady 2 way guy that can babysit Schultz and cover for his roaming ass is what we need.If that person has a boomer for a point shot I would consider it a bonus.

Fourthly (is that a word?) Why would we trade a Center for a Goalie? Thats retarded. Reimer is good, but better than Dubey? Maybe, but it's not a slam dunk.Nor is the margin worth our only NHL Center either.

What's next? Someone is going to post something about the Oilers D being better than Bostons?

You would say? Weird. Most of the TO fans have reasonable expectations for Gardiner

I wouldn't do Gagner for Gardiner. I'd do Gagner for a proven top 4 D. Gagner finished this season 16th in C scoring. While Gardiner spent his season in the AHL. Gardiner's 11 months younger than Gagner. You gotta stop putting your faith in that some day gardiner's gonna be a top pairing D

- TheNugeIsHuge

I think theyre both good young players. But your hate for gardiner (or Leaf fans perception of Gardiner) is really annoying.
Gardiner was a top 4 D, (3rd in D minutes) in his rookie season, and handled it very well. This past year he was in the AHL during the lockout and to get up to speed after a concussion. Also, there was no rush to bring him up as Tor had a bunch of D doing decently and would have to clear waivers to get sent back down.
I think Gardiner is similar to schultz at this point, young top 4 PMD with the potential to be a top 2. Mind you, to inexperienced top 4 PMD. Simple as that.

It was something mentioned over at Oilers Nation.

I figured discussing that would be better than the crap Cloutier cooked up

Wow no way, they lost to team that has the two best players in the world, I'm shocked our two best players were both coming off injury lol, and we had a few rookies so yeah obviously we lost lol, at least we got to the playoffs

I don't think we lose that deal, AND I don't think it's a good deal for us either. Why trade away depth at Centre and defense??

Good thing this trade will never happen in a million years.

- Morris

Thats a good analysis. In terms of trade value, I really think Tor would get fleeced in that deal. But trades need to be both equal value and need to make sense roster wise.
Oilers shouldnt be giving up center depth, especially with the nuge out starting the year and Horcoff possibly gone.
So I think no from a leafs stand point cause we value those players more than what we'd be getting back, and because oilers wouldnt want to lose their best center at the beginning of next season.

I wont disrespect Ottawa.Better team than they look like on paper, great coach and the best offensive D-Man in the league buy a long shot. Makes Letang,Greene,Gardiner and Schultz look like downy's he's that good.

Oh yeah for sure, I said that Gardiner can be a top 4 dman. The bias in me says that Gagner will hit 50 points before Gardiner is a consistent top 4 dman, but both of things will probably happen within the next two years anyway so the whole thing is a moot point.

I don't think there's a fit to be had here though, and there are enough reasons beyond their comparative value to see as Clouts trolling for hits.

gagner is one year older than gardiner. but of course he's maxed out in potential, while gardiner still has tons of developing to do.
- hugefemale dog77

I disagree with people saying gagner has maxed out, but you know as well as I do that forwards develop faster than D who develop faster than goalies.
A 24 year old forward is closer to his potential that a 24 year D, and a 24 year old goalie is often still considered a prospect.

Gagner fought Dillon, Beauchemin, Johnson, Halischuck, Kesler, Conroy, and Jokien... All pretty much taller than him.

And he's probably taller than you, and probably still can kick your ass...

agreed.

I was just pointing out clear hypocrisy.

you'll notice a lot of people will take whatever side helps their argument whether it has any merit or not.

"who cares that joe smith was -10? his whole team was bad. +/- is a useless stat".

different thread, different day;
"pete jones rules. he had 30 points and was +15"!!

btw-pete jones and joe smith are young and up coming superstars. you just haven't heard of them yet.....
