I wish we got Bernier
Great deal for the Leafs... Ugh

At least he didn't go to the Isles or Philly though...
I think they'll be the two biggest players for Miller
Let the bidding begin!

I thought the Leafs overpaid to get Bernier. Scrivens was supposed to be a good goalie in the future. Hope you don't regret on this deal.

Leafs got a fine goalie in Bernier; as a Kings fan, I'm very happy that's he went to the Eastern Conference. Reimer is a good goalie too, and Leafs should have a healthy competition between the two.....

Scrivens seems like a good backup....Leafs fans, what are we getting in Frattin ? Did he struggle last year when he came back from the knee injury, or was the lineup set and he only got 4th line minutes ?

I like Frattin. Hard working player that went on a tear early last season but never got his stride back after his injury. He's effective when you crashes the net and he's a strong skater. I think he'll do fine in LA. Scrivens can look great at times but when he's having a bad game... it's BAD. I like Scrivens too though... good back up for Quick.

Scrivens and Bernier are potentially good goalies but I think Bernier has more upside.

A lot of people are making me laugh..Leafs didnt give up all that to acquire a backup..If they wanted a backup theres plenty free agents available to be had for cheap to sit on the bench. Reimers on the move.

Hate this deal, that the leafs also kept 500k in cap makes it that much worse.
You always say the team that gets the best player wins the deal.
Matt Frattin is the best player in this deal.

5yrs ago this would be a true statement... thats because 5yrs ago, Leafs Nation would pop the champange only to find out they just traded for Steve Bernier.

thank god times have changed.

Frattin wills core 20+ next year for the Kings.
Bernier is not a proven NHL starter. He's played a total of 62 games in the NHL since being drafted 6 years ago, and has never played ore than 25 in a season.

He is NOT Jonathon Quick.

- B-Wforever

You are right, and that is why he has played so little over the last few years...he actually put up better numbers than Quick this reg. season

This trade puts the Leafs in a situation that reminds me of an opportunity that they had post the 2005 lockout. The Leafs had two highly touted goalie prospects coming up in their system in Justin Pogge and Tuukka Rask. What I thought the thought process was going to be was that the Leafs would let the two goalies push each other to the point that they would be able decide which one is better for their organization after which they would trade the other for a greater need. However, John Ferguson Jr’s short-sightedness put a stop that idea when he traded Rask for Andrew Raycroft in order to fill the present “need”.

Apparently I am doomed to walk the earth, forever explaining this to Leafs fans:

Rask was not signed.

Rask was not going to sign.

So Rask was going to go back into the draft.

Don't fault JFJ for trading Rask.

Fault him for getting Raycrap in return.

Leafs will trade Phaneuf.
EDIT: probably to Anaheim.

Then will go after Volchenkov/Murray (2y deals) and Ian White for help on D.

And leafs will go after C. Stewart of St. Louis for 2nd line RW.

Toronto's 1st rounder in 2013 would have to go the other way (+mid level D prospect).

I this deal is definitely less risk than trading for Toskala and Raycroft. Frattin is a good player but one the leafs don't need or have use for in the top 6. Leafs needed a #1 goalie and I think the two young goalies competing is a great way to go. Still not sold on either one but the potential is there

Rask was NOT in danger of going back into the draft. He was only drafted a year before that. The man to ultimately blame is Richardie Peddie who told his boy JFJ to make the playoffs. They did NOT need a goalie just to make the playoffs at that point. The team was a mess and in need of a REBUILD. Of course as we know, JFJ was so far in over his head it was like a jet stream.
