Darren Dreger: Sounding like the Maple Leafs expect to be busy on the trade front this week. Looking for a young center and a top 4 defenseman.

Darren Dreger: There are some rumblings that Dion Phaneuf could be in play. GM Dave Nonis has said he’d trade just about anyone, but said that nobody has called about Phaneuf yet.

Bob McKenzie: Adds that he is hearing the same.

Darren Dreger: Toronto would trade Joffrey Lupul, James van Reimsdyk and just about anyone if the return is good enough. All unlikely scenarios.

Howard Berger: Doesn’t expect the Leafs to trade Phaneuf as they’d have to replace his 30-35 minutes a game and physical ability.David Staples: Insiders saying the Maple Leafs are interested in Oilers centerSam Gagner. Josh Rimer tweeted yesterday “”Hearing Leafs have had discussions with Oilers about Sam Gagner. Leafs are looking for a young centre and he certainly fits the bill. … I do see the Leafs adding one of Gagner, Stastny or Stephen Weiss. … Vancouver has also has discussions about Gagner as Sam’s dad Dave is part of Canucks MGMT.”Dreger noted that anything is possible, but the Oilers and Gagner are working on a new contract. Oilers GM Craig MacTavish has called a press conference for Tuesday

.Adrian Dater: Not aware of any trade talks, but mentions if Phaneuf is available and the Avalanche were to land him, would certainly have to include Paul Stastny. Phaneuf’s cap hit is $6.5 million, Stastny’s is $6.6 million.

Dion doesn't play 30-35 minutes and if he did it would not be good

I wonder what Colorado would give us to take their terribly inconsistent, regressing 6.6M cap hit.

of course they are.. why pay for something when you know the GM HAS to buy him out?

unless gillis pays to move him, he will have to buy him out.

- Dozzer

heretic.

the Canuck faithful will have your head for suggesting Gillis has to pay to get rid of Luongo!

he's a top 3 goalie
he's tall
according to Gillis he has a good contract

what else do you need to know.

Leafs can't make that trade.

They need to hang onto the #21, Colborne and Gunnerson...

'cause they are all headed to Vancouver for Luongo.

I believe it is actually a period that begins 48 hours after the cup is handed out, and remains open until the evening of July 4th.
- Atomic Wedgie

I thought so too ...but Poulin was explicit. He even detailed that the Cup could be handed out Wednesday at 11 pm .....then buyouts last until Friday at 11 pm then the draft on Sunday. Then a two day window July 3 and 4 to speak to pending UFA's before July 5th.

No Borje, Louongo will be bought out and go to Florida.

Leafs really need to make that trade, or anything like it to bring in Byfuglien.

well its pretty clear that Winnipeg won't be able to afford to hang onto "big Buf" (who isn't so buff)...

the catering budget will be blown by the end of training camp.

okay - so this is going to sound nuts... but I'm going to throw it out there anyway.

I'm not sure that Nonis is going to hang onto Bernier - but it is a delicate timing thing.

Clearly, Vancouver is firmly planted in a corner relative to the CAP, and they have to get rid of some salary - no question. Who do they buyout, Luongo being the obvious and best target because of the size and duration of the contract. Likely Ballard or Booth as well.

Clearly, the Flyers are in the sh_ter as well relative to the CAP... and they need to upgrade that defense and in goal. So what to do, buyout Mr Universe would seem likely.

Do the Leafs sign Luongo, Pavelec, Bryzgalov or Motor City Smitty and deal Bernier?

If they can pry a good young player out of Philly, take a salary dump defender ....

its a possibility.

6'2-6'5 is the right height for today's goalies. Especially with goalie equipment about to get smaller... Bernier is going to be in big (pardon the pun) trouble.
- Scooby_Doo

So the Canucks wasted a draft pick on Joe Cannata because he's only 6'1"?

It's impossible to deal Bernier. Scooby says Bernier's shyt because he's 2" shorter than Schneider. The Leafs have been had. They traded in the cow for some magic beans.

I don't expect the Leafs to trade JVR or Lupul. This is not the time for another complete rebuild.
