Imagine if guys with potential turned out to be great players every time.

Bernier s too small to be a stud goalie... Although the Leafs didn't give up much to get him.

I think the same deal for Luongo would have been a better move.

- Scooby_Doo

you do realize bernier is 6 feet tall and weighs 186lbs right?

why people think he is small is beyond me.

the vezina winner this year has 2 inches and four pounds on him.. thats it.

keep your big slow goalies.. dont want them.

if u guys gave us a 2nd and no frattin, sure.
- big_dion

It should have been just Frattin and Scrivens end of story...Frattin is a good player and I know most think he's a 3nd liner...but he could easily be a 2nd line player. He drives the net...throws checks - had a hot start until the knee problems and then he got bounced around and played with some weaker players... cheers.

Unless Gillis was willing to eat most of that crazy salary that wasnt going to happen. I think every team is enjoying Gillis squirm.

Canucks have two top 10 goalies.
- Scooby_Doo

Yep, and Gillis has indirectly instructed Nonis on how not to handle that "issue".

I doubt it has anything to do with watching Gillis squirm...it's just common sense not to take on a salary like Lou's for a backup goalie

the risk reward ratio lies heavily in favour of the leafs

lets be honest here.. scrivens is a fringe NHLer who will be a backup for most of his career.. and he is already 26, 27 by the start of the season.

frattin is a 3rd line grinder with good wheels.. but he's isnt going to amount much more than.. he might get used on the second line if the kings get hit with injury but I also wouldnt be shocked to see him on the 4th line a lot as well.

2nd round pick.. big whoop.. nonis can recoup one in another deal

- Dozzer

We don't need Scrivens to be more than a backup, I'm not sure why Leaf fans are talking about him not being able to be a starter.... That's not his job, his job is to backup Quick.... Frattin doesn't need to be a big time goal scorer either, he needs to be someone who can create space, LA has plenty of goal scorers.. He plays and he's built a lot like Dustin Brown, Lombardi is probably going to try to turn him into Brown2.0.... We have a first line, so 2nd or 3rd line is just fine.

Never said that. Just a lot of variables in the deal... no known commodities.

Leafs could come out like bandits or fools... I'd say it's a high-risk move for both teams.

However, with the departure of Frattin, Komarov, and most likely MacArthur... there are a lot of spots openning up on the wings... with some interesting wingers available.

You said Frattin and Scrivens have so much potential. I am just asking you who has more potential? Scrivens/Frattin or Bernier?

I think Toronto wins the deal by alot. Frattin is no more than a 3rd or 4th line player. Players who dont score a goal in 25 games are easliy to acquire. Goalies with the pedigree of a Bernier are not. Scrivens will be a career back up and who knows what the 2nd round pick will turn into. I think Toronto did very well in this deal and it's very hard for me to admit that.
- imsorry66

Good post. When Habs fans are calling this a good deal for the Leafs then maybe Leafs fans should see it as a positive move.

For the position you guys were in with him being an RFA and everything, you took the best deal you could get...Nothing great, nothing horrific...

6'2-6'5 is the right height for today's goalies. Especially with goalie equipment about to get smaller... Bernier is going to be in big (pardon the pun) trouble.

this is about right... I would say that Frattin COULD become more in the right situation... but LA has more depth than the Leafs already... if he were moved to somewhere like Nashville or Winnipeg and got a real chance at decent second line minutes, he could turn into a really solid contributor.

but my guess is that Nonis is going to very hard after Clarkson, and with Clarkson and Kulemin, I don't see much "space" for a guy like Frattin unfortunately. I think the problem for a guy like him Toronto is again he's tweener... not really a power forward (not big enough - my opinion) and not slick enough for the top two lines... similar to the MacArthur situation. At least this way Nonis got some value for Frattin and Scrivens.

I wish Nonis was in a position to get something of value for Bozak, similar problem again. In this situation, Leafs develop a solid contributor and lose that resource, mainly because Burke signed Grabovski for too much.

Now we can all sit and wait for the inevitable Luongo to Toronto rumors... 'cause you know the Leafs still need a proven veteran! And its great because we still have Kadri and Reilly to send out west...

Schneider is 2 inches taller so that makes him the perfect size?? Come on, take those rose colored Vancouver glasses off. Quick is 6'1 so he's too small right? What a ridiculous comment.

Frattin is no where near as physical as Brown.
