Yup, to buy out Phaneuf after he trades Luongo for Phaneuf, Rielly + 1st.

There are a lot of moving parts in this deal. I think Frattin and Scrivens both have a lot of potential, and I don;t like seeing them go so early on.

At the same time, Bernier is far from proven... he hasn't had a big workload yet, and prior to this season, he hasn't put up very good numbers either.

So Scrivens and Frattin have more potential than Bernier??? Come on.

Exactly. If you're not moving ahead you're falling behind because every other team is trying to find ways to get better. I think this off season is going to be full of moves, unlike last year when everyone knew the lockout was coming.

that and many teams have to make moves to be compliant

I agree, no one was offering much and the Kings took what they felt was the best offer...If he would have reached the point of sheeting then all the Kings would have received would have been a 2nd and 3rd...The biggest part of the deal was the $500,000 the got...

ya... but see how much their value has dropped, last summer around beginning of August they were both top 3 in the league

My thinking as well. Too many people are all of the sudden hating on Frattin and acting like Bernier is a sure thing. Personally, I still had a lot of hope for Frattin and honestly would have rather had this deal not be made. Upgrades on D and center, not thin out or wings.

the risk reward ratio lies heavily in favour of the leafs

lets be honest here.. scrivens is a fringe NHLer who will be a backup for most of his career.. and he is already 26, 27 by the start of the season.

frattin is a 3rd line grinder with good wheels.. but he's isnt going to amount much more than.. he might get used on the second line if the kings get hit with injury but I also wouldnt be shocked to see him on the 4th line a lot as well.

2nd round pick.. big whoop.. nonis can recoup one in another deal

Never said that. Just a lot of variables in the deal... no known commodities.

Leafs could come out like bandits or fools... I'd say it's a high-risk move for both teams.

However, with the departure of Frattin, Komarov, and most likely MacArthur... there are a lot of spots openning up on the wings... with some interesting wingers available.

frattin was becoming a good player, and we were liking him.

he scored some clutch goals and was becoming an NHL player.

was he ever going to hit a 20 goal season? maybe not, maybe so...

no risk, no reward.

was a good move by nonis and the leafs are a better team by doing this.

Imagine if guys with potential turned out to be great players every time.

Bernier s too small to be a stud goalie... Although the Leafs didn't give up much to get him.

I think the same deal for Luongo would have been a better move.

I think they believe Tyler Biggs, Josh Leivo or maybe even Colborne can produce as much as Frattin in a year or so.

Geez, Ryan Hamilton can do as much defensively and physically and has proven he can score at the AHL level. Needs to get one at the NHL level to get some confidence.

The good news is they finally have some depth in the organization to enable them to take this risk.

So... what do people think of the trade?
- Feeling Glucky?

not happy with the 2nd and paying 90% of Scrivens salary.

Should've been a 4th and cash or no cash and the 2nd.

my 5 cents worth.

But then there's that contract issue. By Luongo's own admission it sucks. Why would Nonis want to do Gillis a favour?
