Its not a lot to give up at this point. Matt Frattin is a nice player, but come on now. He is 25 years old, drafted 6 years ago and has 82 NHL games (28 points). Some people are talking like they gave up a top NHL player. It may end up being Scrivens thats the more valuable piece going to LA.

I dont like the 2nd round pick going with them, but at least the leafs have some control over the pick.

Another bingo. People are simply putting too much value in Frattin and not a lot in Bernier. Analyst everywhere rave about this guy. He'll be a very good starting goalie for the leafs.

I was listening to some talk radio last night and one dude called in and said the thinks Frattin will be a Dustin Brown down the road.

But your not really taking into account that both goalies have already shown their displeasure of not being the starter... Reimer at the trade deadline when we were looking into kipper and its literally the reason Bernier asked for the trade in the first place... I can't imagine either of them coming into camp happy about the situation which could just as easily have a negative effect on their development as a positive one

That's the reality of life in pro sports. Unless you are an elite player, there are always guys wanting and able to take your job.

The good news is you get to make millions , the bad news is you can end up anywhere in North America and you are a bad season or an injury away from being displaced.

I am betting Reimer works his tail off this summer.

I also think Frattin has upside . So does Bernier.

We weren't going to get Bernier for the rights to Johnny Pohl

Frattin is likely the piece in the deal I'll miss most...and not because I think he'll develop into some top-6 scoring winger. Even though he was ridiculously streaky, he always used his speed and seemed to almost never be knocked down when hit. He was a great (and cheap) 3rd liner that we now have to replace going forward. Maybe a spot Brad Ross could be well-suited for. Not a bad way for him to get his feet wet in the NHL.

I sense sarcasm.

But I didnt even mean in the sense of the actual evaluations.

Just the way the guy was going off calling people stupid retards and whatever else. "All leaf fans are morons cuz this one guy under evaluated a player I want to suck off" and blah blah blah

- UsernameUnknown

No I wasn't being sarcastic. I was being serious. The guy was being a tool. It was so annoying I had to leave.

Yeah that was another brutal trade suggestion. And the guy was adamant that it was a fair deal. Wow.

imo, they've got to trade Reimer now. They brought in another goalie of a similar age who they clearly prefer, and paid the assets to get him. They need to trade Reimer, and sign a UFA veteran backup, and simply end any whiff of goaltending controversy which almost always ends badly.

I'm thinking Habs fans must hate this trade seeing how French-Canadian goalies' eyes get real big when they see the CH on the other side.

Here's Reimer on the trade, via Toronto Sun:

It makes you feel a bit doubted as a goalie,” a candid Reimer told the Toronto Sun during a phone interview on Sunday.

The lingering question in Reimer’s mind: “By who?”

“Is it by the coaches? Is it by the GM? Is it by the media? You could drive yourself crazy asking yourself things like that,” he said.

“You just have to focus on what you can control and believe in yourself.”

To be fair, Dave Nonis insisted the deal, which sent Scrivens, Matt Frattin and a second rounder to the Kings, “is not a knock on James.” In the opinion of the Leafs GM, let the best man win.

At the same time, there is another significant issue that has Reimer scratching his head: Why bring in another youngster when there were indications that management wanted to add experience?

“I was a little surprised when I heard about the deal,” Reimer said. “There had been talk about bringing in a veteran. But to bring in someone of a similar age, well, obviously they have their reasons.

Yup, here we go, folks.

You've got to think the Leafs will be getting calls on Reimer this week. I hope someone makes them an offer they can't refuse. I'm not looking forward to an entire season of the "who's starting in net tonight" game.

Dave Poulin had an interesting point. He said you can't dictate when players become available, and you have to pounce when they do. So if you need a centre, defenseman, and a goalie in that order it doesn't mean you don't trade for the goalie because it's not the first thing on your wishlist. Makes sense, and a lot of people have been saying that this move wasn't necessary.

Now that the deal is done, if Reimer is not traded this summer, let's hope he pushes Bernier hard for the job, and Bernier has to earn the no. 1.
