Phaneuf couldnt handle the minutes regardless, but your saying youd turn down the chance to get bobby and keep phaneuf? When our team is deep with defenders in prospect wise as well? - Mapleleafs_91
Why couldn't Phaneuf handle the minutes?
He played the most difficult opponents in the worst situations playing with a boat load of crap for most of the year. He landed himself 11th in Norris voting.
Who is out there and available that represents a clear upgrade? |

We couldn't even get a defender to take away mins from him because he so much better than the rest of them. We lose him we have 3-4 guys trying to play 1-2 mins - Yeti1181
Sorry i usually agree with you but its a team game, not a one man show. Too much pressure and load on phaneuf. If we don't trust anyone else which to begin with i dont even trust phaneuf since he is offensively minded, bringing in more defensive minded guys like ference, etc. Would be better to have and the "share load" would be distributed. Not just to one guy. I feel bad for phaneuf and all the hate he gets, its because too much is on him and we notice it all because he is the one we will see usually on |

U interested in paying him more next year when contract is up??...He's not taking a pay cut and will most certainly want a pay increase..
Leafs not a cup contender and if can get decent return for Phaneuf they should do it at this point.. - Fruitcakenipple
he'll have trouble with that argument.
I could see him taking a cut to $5M-$5.5M per, and I wouldn't mind that at all.

Well that depends what's available if you can't replace him then you sign him within a decent amount. He ll get money on the open market gotta sell him on the team. If we lose our big d asset were going to go down the standings and nobody will want to play here. |

A good trade, considering that Scrivens will never be a number one guy and Frattin is past the point of calling him a prospect. He could be a good 3rd line player, but he won't dislodge anyone in the top 6 currently. Now that we have Bernier, we now have a commodity, in Reimer, that can be traded to fill a hole, or to move up in the draft. How far would Scrivens/Frattin move us up in the draft? We now have the makings of being able to either fix our center position, or in our top 4 on defense. |

Phaneuf is offensively minded, not defensively. Why do you think he jumped into the play which caused that OT goal? Because he wanted to make a hit for the sake of a hit? No, he wanted to make a play in bostons zone to keep puck in. Offensively minded, a defensively minded defender would of trailed backwards pinching back not forward |

you know who else wants to come to toronto... weiss. Really i dont want him, i prefer stastny but hes another - Mapleleafs_91
I might be in the minority, but I wouldn't mind Weiss.
when healthy he is effective, and if he wants to be here, he might be one
very determined player.... he lost his heart in florida, you could tell....
if he feels re-incarnated, love to see what he does in blue and white.

Why not keep to good young tenders challenging for the #1?
nice cheap vets tend to be cheap for a reason... |

Stupid acquisition. Bernier is a great goalie, but this is ZERO upgrade from Reimer. Funny how Bernier is all of a sudden a legitimate starting goalie as soon as he comes to the Leafs. He's never played more than 25 games in the league. Leafs screw with another goalie in Reimer. He was the only reason they made any noise this year... |

You guys, it's not about losing Scrivens and Frattin, no one cares. It's Reimer. No one in the Leafs thread had any issue with the goaltending. Bernier brings total goaltending controversy with him. Reimer earned the number one spot and is better in all areas as of now. Bernier is coming for one reason, to run him out of a job. Reimer is young, proven and has been told for months in the media from Nonis himself, that they were trying to get a verteran backup ala Vokoun in Pittsburgh. The trade will create a media frenzy over who going to play every night. I was happy with the nice simple net situation this year. |

That's what I ve been saying for a month get someone to play with him not ship him out. If we can shave 3 to 4 mins off his game then great. Douglas Murray would be good with him. |

These tandems don't work...Both want to be #1...Reimer in the right package would bring much needed help on the defense or maybe a #1 center... |

Ya and how dumb are they? Reimer has proven what he had to Bernier hasn't and they take that kind of a risk. |

I am a little sketchy on douglas murray... hes slow as (frank), very heavy defender, i watched alot of the pens games, very slow guy.... Ference would be a very nice addition stealing bostons players and Dozzer mentioned hainsey could be a cheap pick up as well from his original salary... scuderi is the obvious choice as well |

Volchenkov might be better.... Murray is slow....
leafs play an up tempo game lots of north-south.... not sold Murray
would be the best acquisition, but wouldn't be completely against him..
depends on the money I guess. |
