Are they really think of trading Phaneuf nonis has gone mad - Yeti1181
I'm okay with Phaneuf going, if there is secondary move to bring in a D-man from elsewhere. |

The fact that he had to play that many minutes really shows how bad off the Leafs are on D after him though. - daeth
If we had more offense up front, and limited PMDS with defensive minded defenders, then we should be good |

You know that Reimer has more games, wins, shutouts, and a better save percentage than Bernier, right? I'm not saying the potential isn't there, but don't kid yourself and think that Bernier is going to be handed the job; having two young goalies duking it out for the number #1 spot is what we should've done with Rask and Pogge and I'm happy for that, but if Bernier's the same goalie as Reimer, can we then move Reimer for a 1st, a roster player, and a young backup? - gravyface
read my whole post.
Bernier is better than Scrivens, therefore Leafs goaltending tandem is BETTER. Bonifide upgrade.
thanks

I've never heard Bobby Ryan linked to the leafs in the last 12 months, think Ryan goes to an atlantic team, if dealt.

Toronto has plenty of offense, but I guess you mean guys who can cycle and waste time in the offensive end more than anything? |

Bernier is considerably better than Scrivens. Fact. Period. Not even debatable. Frattin was 3rd liner with Leafs and will be lucky to crack LA's roster at all, unless they lose a couple people. Yes, he had a hot start and we had high hopes for him... well Mike Kostka had a hot start too...
This is a good trade for the Leafs. Goaltending tandem is significantly improved, and all it cost was Frattin and a flexible 2nd round pick. With Bernier there, Scrivens wouldn't make the team anyway, and had very little trade value on his own. - Big_Lightnin
Good points, I think Bernier looks like he's good, should work out great. But let's not forget, James Reimer did everything anybody was hoping for, maybe more by now. Bernier hasn't been given the opportunity. Not his fault but he hasn't. I think he's good, I just didn't think the goaltending was the issue. Frattin and Scrivens don't mean much but they were traded for a pretty good young asset, something on the defense might have been a good option for those assets. I'm not sure this is just a wham bam no fuss deal. Bernier asked for a trade to be a number one, and he's got it. He just has to beat out the guy who already did all that was asked of him. A guy requesting a trade like Bernier is, probly wouldn't be too happy to be Reimer right now, if he had earned his shot and now is forced to compete with guy not brought in to be the veteran to help that the club has been saying they needed. If Reimer is better and Bernier's on the bench, is he wanting a trade again? It's a pretty dicey scenario heading into next season, and might go down as something unnecessary and avoidable. Was goaltending the issue? |

Crazy yet legitimate shot on the dark here:
Hear me out folks
Put Gardiner as third line Center.
Anyone think thats crazy enough to work? Just to talk about something. |

Scrivens is a borderline NHLer.
Nice guy. I wish him all the best.
But I couldn't care less that he is gone. - Atomic Wedgie

Right, but Reimer is statistically better and more proven than Bernier, so shouldn't be able to deal him for a 1st, young roster player, and a young backup? How about even a 2nd, young roster player, and a young backup? |

If Reimer is dealt, have to believe it's towards a shutdown Dman or solid center, or to get rid of a roster player like Grabovski..... no other reason to deal him.

Not really, the more offense we have the better. More goals i know its not a problem with the leafs but it doesn't hurt to add more fire. Having more defensive minded defenders will help us. We dont need alot of pmds or offensive minded defenders |

What if Reimer gets another concussion? Or excuse me... "neck injury"?
still pointless?
Is Bernier better than Scrivens? Yes
Was Frattin guaranteed to even make the team next year? No
Where's the problem here?
