If you want to win tho.. You need a goalie who can shut the door at the most crucial of times.. Reimer, and I like the guy, failed miserably at that this playoffs
- Dozzer

But why is Bernier that guy? If we've got no faith in Reimer, then at least go get yourself with some proven ability. Miller or Luongo or whoever.

Because they're building something here.. Long term.. No quick fixes.

Sometimes you got to gamble to move forward and the return on this gamble is fantastic for what was given up

If kulemin is gone, our 3rd line is basically open for guys like biggs, broll, ashton, mckegg, colborne, damigo
- Mapleleafs_91

Would like to see Colborne land the permanent 3rd line centre roll.

He wasn't out of place.

Biggs will probably be another 2 years away as I think he's eligible for the AHL full-time next year. He'll need 2 years in the AHL to round out his form

Yeah this must be a real long-term project. They will definitely be leaning towards Reimer, but with next year being 82 games I guess they're just not sure yet.

In the end I think Reimer continues to push ahead and eventually Bernier gets flipped for more than we acquired for him in 2 years.

starting to build a pretty sweet core to this team though, especially compared to what burke started with a while back! That's the thing, now we are in a position where these types of trades can be made, because of the depth that is coming through the ranks!

theyre starting to assemble some decent young core players

kessel
JVR
bernier
reimer
kadri
franson
gardiner
lupul
phaneuf

all good, young players who can grow with the team

With Reimer only having one more year under contract, I think it's decision time in goal. I'd bet that this move will be seen as the beginning of the end for Reimer in Toronto.

I'm not buying a crested jersey anymore. Too many players have been traded.

Can anyone say Toskala 2.0? Nonis is an idiot. Luongo would have given him six solid years (including this one where he might have helped them beat Boston) as a legit no.1 and then mentored whoever was coming up in the process to take over.instead he takes a flyer on someone unproven and paid more for the privilege.bernier and nonis won't be there in five years.Luongo will outlast both of them wherever he goes next.
- kaptaan

Correction - Luongo's contract will outlast them. That contract and cockroaches are the only things that will survive a nuclear winter. Enjoy.

No. Like what for? we have 2 goalies who can share the net, leave it alone. Were good as it is. We dont need a goalie a number one goalie making (frank)ing 5-6M+ over when we can have 2 goalies making that one goalies salary together when added up.

Well Lupul and Phaneuf are almost 30, but yes, we're finally building a good young core.

lupul and phaneuf yes, but they are also young enough where they can be leaders to the younger players, but also play at their top level for many more years

I do hope Bernier knows that playing full time in Toronto is a lot different than playing 10-15 games per year in LA.

He should go and find a good psychologist now.

Matt Frattin was mid round pick that panned out as a bottom 6 power forward. Ben Scrivens was a undrafted free agent signing that turned out to be a cheap, decent back up goaltender and a 2nd round pick that isn't even from next weekend's draft.

Bernier was an 11th overall pick that got stuck behind one of the best goalies in the world. When a goalie gets drafted in the 1st round, they're the real deal.

How is that steep?

Reimer is a good goalie too but is he the guy that's going to win you a cup? Or is he a really solid backup that can step in with confidence in any situation?

maybe because he's behind the reigning Conn Symthe trophy winner who is undoubtedly top-3 in the league?
