Ashton, Colborne, Clarkson. Biggs and Ross should get a shot at the 2014/15 roster. - BetterCallSaul
Maybe you should wait to see if the leafs can get clarkson first?
Also, I'd be willing to bet that if they did, he'd have more than a "shot" at making the roster lol |

Clarkson is looking like a must at this point. Im excited for Biggs and Ross, hopefully Biggs can become a 2nd line powerforward... unlikely but who knows |

I would think the item highest on the Rangers list would be CAP space.
and a GM with a brain. - BorjeFan4Ever
nonis screens sather's calls cuz he knows if he does a trade with him he'd get fleeced like every other GM in the league. |

Mr. Thomas Kaberle - Byfuglien Ate Me
he was an assist machine playing for the leafs but never was a big fan of his defensive game but yes he was never a hated d-man. Well not by me anyways. |
|
|
|
it's a scapegoat position.... forwards mistake turn into an odd man rush.. d-mans mistke turn into prime scoring chances.... and if it ends up in the back of the net it's the D fault. - derm10
Or,..... How many elite d man have we had? Maybe just a long time since we had a great one. |

I said Biggs and Ross should get a shot. The other 3 (if we get Clarkson) would make this years team. That's what punctuation if for. |

Can anybody name the last loved leafs defenseman?
Cause I can name a whole lot that were hated.....
McCabe
Murphy
Ellett
To name a few. Maybe its us and not them? lol - Sheppy99
Kaberle was hated too. I would say that the only Leaf d man that the Leaf fans truly adored in my 37 years of watching the Leafs was BJ Salming. No one since than is even on the same planet. I mean nothing wrong with Ellet. He wasn't hated. He was good but we always felt he could be better, that he could do more, could be more physical. I think he was an under achiever. |

would have to agree.......
And then Tim Horton probably lol - Sheppy99
Lol that's like 30 years and most people only know Horton because of the coffee! Personally I thought Leetch was great for the whole one season he played.

Phaneuf needs to be insulated, not traded. He'd be more effective at 22-24 minutes a night instead of 26 plus.
And I am not a fan of phaenuf by any means but he does log big minutes against the best lines in the NHL. More often than not he does decently - Sheppy99
Not really worth discussing, he's not going anywhere. The guy is the captain and their best player. Like him or not, he's an extremely rare comodity in that he combines defense/hitting/offense. Plus he scores actual goals, not just assists like most Offensive D.
With a good partner, at 22 mins a night and playing in front of a star goalie with a competent defense corpse he could win a norris trophy. Trading him would be dumb.

what about Phil Housley? the idea of him playing in Toronto was kind of cool when we traded for him, but then never played 1 game for us. |

Top end dude? Come on, stop kidding yourself. He's an average/below average player. He'll be out of the league in 3 years, the problem is, he can't get his head around it all, he'll never put all the pieces together. He's 26 years old, not that good. Joey Crabb went on a scoring binge as well, remember those days. Same player, more or less. Hardworker, servicable, inconsistent, a plug. - ThePresident
Not sure you got what I meant. I've never considered Frattin a scorer. Sure he gets on a run but to me that wasn't his strength at all. He's an above average skater with solid balance and leg strength. Can forecheck and take the body well. To me he was put in the wrong role. Never said he was the next Gretzky but did see some big value in his game as a defensive forward. Him, McClement and Kulemin would have been solid in a shut down role.

I can tell you how many have been in Toronto
Leafs fans tend to make excuses instead of saying the team does not have enough skill. Players wearing blue and white are not all great. some are.
