what's your point?
I hope they improve the defense and if they do, wouldn't of that benefited Reimer as well? Without having to give up assets for another unproven goalie?
Reimer at least has stolen a game or two in the playoffs, how many has Bernier stolen? And how has Bernier done with an increased workload in the NHL on a consistent basis?
Improve the defense and look for a center before worrying about your goaltending. Any goalie who can put up a 920 save % with dion (frank)in phaneuf as your #1 guy gets my respect. - Sheppy99
Reimer stole nothing.
A goalie who can control a rebound should improve the D. |

How do you have any idea of how many games Reimer can play - because he got a concussion in his 2nd year?? Scrivens did just fine in his 20 games last year - 91.5% GAA and 2.6GAA. This trade was a waste of assets on a position we didn't "need" to upgrade. - Cooshie
Waste of assets?
Nothing that was given up can't be replaced... Nothing at all.
Frattin: 3rd liner
Scrivens: back up goalie
2nd round pick? Meh.

Don't know where you're taking this from. La gave up the third most shots this year and we're 26th overall in winning games they were outshot in.
La is not a defensive juggernaut by any means - Dozzer
they do a good job of keeping shots to the perimeter. The leafs are the worst in the league at giving up high quality scoring chances from the slot. Always have been.
It's why Toskala was exposed over and over. If you are going to be a team who does that, you need a huge goalie to take up space.
I would take L.A's defense in a heart beat over Toronto's |

Well, I called it. Great trade. Without reservations I gaurentee the following:
1) Riemer traded at the draft
2) Bernier signed to a 4/5 year deal
3) Trade goes down as one of the best in franchise history
4) By December all the moaners are lying and saying they knew all along Bernier was a star.
5) Bernier will be the first Leaf goalie of the Modern Era to win a Vezina. - Jimmy_Tea

There never would of been a game 7 if it weren't for Reimer. Pretty sure he was #1 star for a reason in the games we needed to win.
How quickly we forget.
You want to blame someone for that collapse in game 7. Blame the defense and Dion phaneuf sitting in the first row watching Chara screen Reimer. |

and what were the scores in those games... just cause u get outshot doesn;t mean u aren;t defensive .... that the whole point of a defensive team.. let them shoot from bad angles and locatioins.. keep the lanes clear...... la is a defensive team... no way around that. |

That's funny. I assume you're a Leafs fan? You obviously don't watch the west, because it's past your bedtime. Bernier played behind a really strong team defense. He's only 5'11 and will get picked apart with the Leafs. Reimer is better. I watch a lot of hockey. - Boinker

Truth but Bernier >>>>>>> Scrivens. Upgrade complete. - Blue Leaves
Basically Bernier is an upgrade over Scrivens. If the Leafs can get Clarkson, that would be a serious upgrade over Frattin. It's a trade for the Leafs that goes in the right direction. |

The simple fact is the leafs gave up nothing... Absolutely nothing of any real value for a potential game changer goalie
If I had a choice between Bernier and scrivens frattin and an unknown I'd take Bernier anyday.
Who starts is carlyle's decision anyways, not nonis' |

It seems like an overpayment but Bernier is a great goaltender. You have to give to get and I think the Leafs will miss Frattin but they FINALLY have that #1 goalie. Good trade for both teams.

Bernier is an upgrade over Scrivens so the Reimer/Bernier tandem of goalies could be quite effective for the Leafs. Frattin is probably the biggest loss for Toronto in the deal. |
