You still have to sign Bernier and he will want a contract like Rask/Schneider got which is 4M/year. How do you think that will make JR feel who is on a 1.8M deal? - therealagent
no... he doesn;t have the same experience rask had... and nonis isn;t gillis. |

He's not signing into the same situation, unless you consider Reimer to be the equal of a Vezina candidate Conn Smythe winning 27 year old goalie... - AdamFrench
I do!! well everything but his five hole and glove hand |

The truth is teams with good responsible defense who keeps shots to the outside always make goalies look better than they are. Ummm does nobody remember Bryz in Phoenix?
This is not conclusive evidence that Bernier will not turn into a star but we have to interpret his L.A numbers with a grain of salt. Defense in L.A on a night by night basis is a helluva lot better than Toronto's.
So how this is an upgrade or why this was needed is still a little foggy to me.
I thought the plan was to go with a dependable cheap veteran to tutor Reims.

he was hand picked by the owner who has more money than hockey sense. aquilini wanted to find a GM who could convince bure to let us retire his jersey, which will be this upcoming season. - therealagent
Well he obviously sucks... |

It was used for the correct position, and we gave up junk. Reimer isn't capable of playing a whole season, and Scrivens sure as hell isn't capable of playing the other 40. Awesome trade. - ThePresident
How do you have any idea of how many games Reimer can play - because he got a concussion in his 2nd year?? Scrivens did just fine in his 20 games last year - 91.5% GAA and 2.6GAA. This trade was a waste of assets on a position we didn't "need" to upgrade. |
|
|
|
This isn't a huge trade...He's gonna sign Clarkson and make a few more mid level/minor moves to get this team ready for next season... - Flyfreaky
why cause the flyers didn;t get him.... he is one of the most talke about rfa's ... not a huge trade.. but it isn;t exactly a minor league deal.... 3 nhl contracts moved. |

Bernier can be Leafs' final piece of the puzzle, assuming the puzzle has two pieces and is a picture of huge holes at defense and center. |

Is 45 his chosen jersey number, or was that just given to him as a rookie? What was his number in the Q? |

This is exactly why I didn't want the Flyers to win this trade...Nothing against Bernier, but the Flyers and Leafs have other needs where there assets could be better utilized...Although, the Leafs didn't lose much and have cap room to bring in other players such as Clarkson to replace Frattin... |

It's a mid level deal and I'm relieved that the Flyers didn't get him, cause they have bigger needs to worry about than trading for Bernier...The Devils are the team that should have been making this trade... |

Don't know where you're taking this from. La gave up the third most shots this year and we're 26th overall in winning games they were outshot in.
La is not a defensive juggernaut by any means
