I think Nonis is going for the idea of having two very good young guys who are still 5 years away from their prime... I can't fault him here, though I would have preferred to send someone other than Frattin... - lumlums
The problem is that Bernier is a RFA so they still have to actually sign him. He's not going to want to sign into the same situation he just left in LA. He's going to want some sort of assurance that he's going to get the net. This is going to be a very tricky situation for Nonis. |

Looks like you and I were wrong about Nonis being quiet. - BetterCallSaul
This isn't a huge trade...He's gonna sign Clarkson and make a few more mid level/minor moves to get this team ready for next season... |

super slow mo. - TML60
I don't know if its fair to characterize the Canuck situation as "super slow mo"...
I believe Gillis decision making and assessments of his CAP situation fit better into the "stationary/stand-still" category. |

I actually just spent the last two minutes crying from laughing so hard. I love those kinds of laughs where the amount of stupidity in which you just heard is so astronomical that you forget how to breath due to the laughing. - optimus-reim
That's some funny stuff you quoted. Makes me want to read the whole blog. F'n priceless. |

This is just a stupid post. Do you watch Frattin play? Even when he doesn't score, he is doing something positive on the ice. Frattin is going to be in the NHL for a dozen years to come. A player LA will love! - Cooshie
Joey Crabb was a serviceable player too.... |

be hilarious if Reimer outplays Bernier next season - Sheppy99
Then he'd probably be going at a rate of 2.30 GAA and .930SV%... I'm good with that |

why is that hilarious?
it's been so long since the leafs have had anything remotely close to goaltending depth that nobody understands how it actually works.

I assume that Nonis spoke to his agent before the trade... he'll be signed by the end of the week.... |

Really steep price for Toronto and a terrific deal for the Kings. Frattin gives the Kings speed which they lack and a 2nd round pick in a deep draft, if it's next year, is high for a guy with very little NHL experience.
I thought their plan was to get a veteran goalie to help tutor Reimer. After what Reimer did to bring the entire province together this spring, it's a slap in his face. If I'm Reimer's agent, I'm asking for a trade today. Reimer will be a #1 and the Leafs will rue this day. Should have gone after a vet like Smith, Backstrom or even Hedberg or Theodore to help the kid along. - therealagent

He's not signing into the same situation, unless you consider Reimer to be the equal of a Vezina candidate Conn Smythe winning 27 year old goalie... |

or Bernier doesn't look as hot with the likes of dion phaneuf and too soft gunnerson and puts up a 899 save % and Reimer plugs along with his solid numbers. |

the funny thing is that everyone outside of vancouver makes fun of gillis and you think it bugs us. what you don't realize is that nobody here thinks he's the right guy either. |

one other little item Nonis did here was reduce his professional signed contracts by one....
which means he will be adding at least one free agent. |
|

Then why is he still there? - Flyfreaky
he was hand picked by the owner who has more money than hockey sense. aquilini wanted to find a GM who could convince bure to let us retire his jersey, which will be this upcoming season. |

Well, I called it. Great trade. Without reservations I gaurentee the following:
1) Riemer traded at the draft
2) Bernier signed to a 4/5 year deal
3) Trade goes down as one of the best in franchise history
4) By December all the moaners are lying and saying they knew all along Bernier was a star.
5) Bernier will be the first Leaf goalie of the Modern Era to win a Vezina. - Jimmy_Tea
