People who say the Leafs "overpaid" for Bernier are just insane.
a 3rd line winger, a 2nd round pick and a backup goalie for a guy who has shown, even in limited play, can be a top notch goaltender and is still only 24yrs old. With his athleticism, it's now doubt that this kid has all-star potential written all over it.

That said, the Leafs gave up assets they should have used on more pressing position issues. I would much rather have taken that package and deepened it further to get the 1C or a pairing D man for Phaneuf - and let Reimer run with the ball.

This trade is disappointing not because the Leafs over paid, they obviously didn't, but because the assets were used for the wrong position!!

this is less about how good bernier might be. the fact is he will want 4M/year and reimer, who led the leafs to the playoffs, is getting better and costs 1/2 as much.

That's funny. I assume you're a Leafs fan? You obviously don't watch the west, because it's past your bedtime. Bernier played behind a really strong team defense. He's only 5'11 and will get picked apart with the Leafs. Reimer is better. I watch a lot of hockey.

Well, I called it. Great trade. Without reservations I gaurentee the following:

1) Riemer traded at the draft
2) Bernier signed to a 4/5 year deal
3) Trade goes down as one of the best in franchise history
4) By December all the moaners are lying and saying they knew all along Bernier was a star.
5) Bernier will be the first Leaf goalie of the Modern Era to win a Vezina.
6) Leafs sign Luongo after Canucks buy him out
7) Vancouver wins SC game 7 against the Leafs 6-5 on a last second goal by Sedin #1 after the Leafs blow 6-1 lead in last three minutes of the game...

This is just a stupid post. Do you watch Frattin play? Even when he doesn't score, he is doing something positive on the ice. Frattin is going to be in the NHL for a dozen years to come. A player LA will love!

It was used for the correct position, and we gave up junk. Reimer isn't capable of playing a whole season, and Scrivens sure as hell isn't capable of playing the other 40. Awesome trade.

Last I checked you tosseded a top 5 goalie who got them to one win away from a SC and tossed him aside forever because of 3 games in the playoffs!
