Luongo is a starter, Bernier a backup...has nothing to do with Luongo being traded. - Scooby_Doo
sure it does,,,leafs were in the market...Vancouver got greedy, they went elsewhere...pretty simple |

Reimer has never started more than 40 games in his NHL stint, neither has Bernier.
Quick plays 60+ and won't be slowing down.
Go the Halak/Elliot route and hope one of them can show that they can be more than a good temp goalie in small samples and become a 60+ game top-end goalie. Deal with the leftovers later. |

We just gave up garbage for a goaltender that is 24 years old and still has the potential to be a franchise goaltender. |

You still have to sign Bernier and he will want a contract like Rask/Schneider got which is 4M/year. How do you think that will make JR feel who is on a 1.8M deal? - therealagent
Tell me last summer you would have been happy to get Frattin, Scrivens and a 2nd for your unproven backup Schneider.... |

The SCF's aren't even over yet. You know those things called the draft and free agency? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, there's still time to get better before the season starts in OCTOBER. - optimus-reim
what's your point?
I hope they improve the defense and if they do, wouldn't of that benefited Reimer as well? Without having to give up assets for another unproven goalie?
Reimer at least has stolen a game or two in the playoffs, how many has Bernier stolen? And how has Bernier done with an increased workload in the NHL on a consistent basis?
Improve the defense and look for a center before worrying about your goaltending. Any goalie who can put up a 920 save % with dion (frank)in phaneuf as your #1 guy gets my respect. |

There's less of a controversy when you have such a young duo with low cost... its a controversy when you give a guy $50m plus and then bench him - lumlums
Yes. Gillis is on the hotseat. Nice to see him squirm. |

That's funny. I assume you're a Leafs fan? You obviously don't watch the west, because it's past your bedtime. Bernier played behind a really strong team defense. He's only 5'11 and will get picked apart with the Leafs. Reimer is better. I watch a lot of hockey. |

Well, I called it. Great trade. Without reservations I gaurentee the following:
1) Riemer traded at the draft
2) Bernier signed to a 4/5 year deal
3) Trade goes down as one of the best in franchise history
4) By December all the moaners are lying and saying they knew all along Bernier was a star.
5) Bernier will be the first Leaf goalie of the Modern Era to win a Vezina. |

Yes but you aren't taking into account Reimer's feelings.

Everyone one will surely be talking today about how Mike Gillis dropped the ball and now there is no chance that Luongo will be a Leaf.
But, it’s my belief that the Leafs were never really in on Luongo and if they want to move forward with uncertainty in net; best of luck to them with that.
-Ian Esplen
I actually just spent the last two minutes crying from laughing so hard. I love those kinds of laughs where the amount of stupidity in which you just heard is so astronomical that you forget how to breath due to the laughing. |

No, he's not on the hot seat. His relationship with our ownership is as strong as ever. |

Leafs have two goalies paid like back-ups. Canucks - not so much.
Leafs have CAP space. Canucks don't have to worry about CAP space... because Gillis hasn't figured out that is something he needs to worry about.
Leafs have prospects. Canucks have .... well they hosted the Olympics
Leafs have GM. Canucks have... well they hosted the Olympics
Toronto has a basketball team (sort of)... Vancouver has... well they hosted the Olympics.
