MAB is on a one way contract. If he is sent to the AHL, he will remain there for the entire season
- PhillySportsGuy

If he clears waivers, which with his concussion history is a good bet, then he can be called back up. If they lose him on waivers, it really isn't that big a deal.

Jury is still out on that. Can't say either way. If Bernier turns out to be a legit # 1 it will be a missed opportunity.
- PLindbergh31

That's the chance you take. Didn't like the rumored cost & if they did really want a goalie back in return we didn't have it to offer.

He won't clear waivers and I hope the Flyers aren't in the business of giving away young defenseman who have shown a bit of promise

Agreed. The fact that Bernier is still an unknown quantity with only 62 NHL starts makes it tough to give up a bunch of assets.

That may have been the case, no backup going the other way.

If he was healthy I would agree with you but he has basically been out with a concussion for over a year and Id be surprised if he ever plays regularly at any level again.

I think he has all the tools to be a #1 but that body of work is just too little.

I'm glad he didn't end up with the Devils. Is it a foregone conclusion that Bernier will beat out Reimer? I don't see how that is a lock.

Everytime a goalie the Flyers are interested in falls by the wayside this offseason, I'm going to think more and more about Michael Leighton being a possibility :/

This says it well

Wake up Leafs fans. Flyers, Wild, Isles, etc. weren't pushing for Bernier to be a backup for them. They all believe he'll be a very good #1.

If Leighton is back in the mix next year, I look forward to the faction of people defending it.

I'd be more concerned that keeping Bryz becomes more of a possibility.

I think he will be very good. Time will tell. If the move was made for Bernier the one positive right off the bat would be Bryzgalov would be a goner. I'm somewhat concerned he is brought back this year which will be an unmitigated disaster.

I...I'm lost. What's he trying to get across here? Are Leafs fans pissed about the trade?

Haven't seen one person say the trade was bad or too much. Not a single person. Most people think that Bernier is the real deal. With all the risks this team takes and for all the complaining about grooming young players slowly, we have the chance to acquire one and we don't because of Matt Read. Impressive to say the least.

He still could be a buyout. But they have to have game plans put together in case one doesn't workout.

Next Sunday is the deadline for them so they'll have to make the call and wait until July 5 to have the UFA market open up.

He must be getting responses from angry Leaf fans. I find it a bit puzzling that of those 4 teams, the Leafs have the best combination on known quantity/good play/youth, yet they're the ones that pulled the trigger

So now we focus on Bobby Ryan? lol Bernier would have been such a h=good pick up, but good thing Homer didnt over do his trade offer. Looks like he sat on the Read/2nd offer and Kings didnt take the bait.. Good for Leafs though, although I dont understand why they would bring Bernier in when Reimer is the workhorse. Oh well Im sure they know what they are doing.

I don't know if Bernier is gonna be a great goalie or not, but what I do know is its not easy to find 25 yr old former 1st round picks who have been groomed slowly. To me he's got a pretty good chance to succeed. I hear some of you how there are other options but I didn't want another vet like Backstrom or Emery. It's no guarantee but it'd be nice to try and get a young goalie who wil be here awhile. The flyers have a terrible track record with their 2nd rounders, when they actually ise them. I wouldn't have thought twice about giving that up with Read. I think a lot of people are getting carried away with Matt read too. I think at his age, his ceiling is a good 2nd liner, but I'm not ready to give him 4 million a yr yet
- FlyerAdam30

I'm not upset about losing out on Bernier. It is too soon to tell what he will be and the asking price was silly. I think you are dead on about Read though.

It's not my money, so it's easy to say buy him out. Having him as a huge distraction as well as a potential backup at a 5.6 million dollar cap hit is something that can't happen. His contract is so bad that he literally has zero trade value.

I have a feeling Ryan is going to end up here. I'm not totally against it depending on cost. With Briere gone, theoretically there is a spot that needs to be filled in the top 6. Problem is there are more pressing needs.

I've said keep him for 1 more year then buy him out, but that would be the case if they didn't feel they wanted to hand it over to Mason and or they didn't like the options in free agency or what asking prices are from teams looking to move a goalie.

After Steve Mason had 62 games played in the NHL, a lot of people felt he was a lock to be Canada's goalie in the 2014 Olympics. Bernier may well end up a great goalie.

But if it took more than Read, there's no reason to risk it. I'd assume that the Kings would have wanted Read, Stolarz and a 2nd. Anyone jumping up and down to trade that much to the Kings for Bernier?
