At this point, you have a very good young core on offense and can begin to rebuild the defense. That entire offensive core (ryan, giroux, voracek, hartnell, schenn, read, couturier, talbot) would all be together for the next 3 years.

Perfect examples of guys who weren't necessarily known as big physical hitters, but who were still capable of stepping up to close the gap and use their body to prevent an attacker from coming freely over the blueline, or when to ride a guy off and/or pin him to the boards to take him out of the play. Carle doesn't really do much of that kind of body work.

actually that's one aspect of carle's game that i thought was there when we first traded for him which disappeared later on. at first, he held guys up at the blue line and i was happy about it.

He's not a selke candidate but he is not a liability either imo. I watch pretty much every hawks game so I see him play maybe 4-5 times a year. Just a quick glance at his stats... a positive +/- the last 5 seasons is pretty good fwiw.
