I'm going to hear the negatives on this, but trade Read, Coburn, 2nd for Ryan and Hiller. Read and Hiller are 1 year away from UFA, so they are a wash. Ryan is a top line winger, Read is a versatile top 9 forward on the cheap for this coming season only. Scuderi replaces Coburn on the 2nd pairing with Streit. Hiller plays tandem with Mason, whichever goalie plays better gets the #1 job going forward.

That is all.

Basically:
Trade reliable player at a position where we have little depth, the cheapest 20-goal scorer in the league, and a draft pick to acquire a player that plays a role already filled by Jake Voracek and a goalie who was beaten out of his job by a rookie? Where do I sign up?

I thought they offered him 3/$15.75 and Streit turned it down?
- jstross

That's what is being rumored. I don't know if that is completely true. I could be wrong but the Islanders are still smart either way. They laid out a price and didn't move off of it.

I like when the Flyers play their youth. If they trade both Coburn and Mez maybe they get back another defenseman who is ready to play now.
- stveshdy

That's also possible.

Scuderi wont be cheap either. He is going to cost you some money.
- stveshdy

Yes, probably similar to what Coburn makes. I haven't run any of my ideas through cap geek, so I'm not sure if it all works together. Just my thoughts. I'd have no problem with Homer looking at Edler, Leddy, or even Demers in SJ. I'd love to have Read re-signed and stick with the core, but you have to give to get. If it comes down to Couturier, BSchenn, or Read being dealt to fill a need, the clear choice is Read.

I think Coburn can really bounce back, with Streit and Gustafsson on the team. He won't be depended on as heavily for offensive input like he was this season.

Love to see them reunite Kimmo and Coburn... that pairing was money.

Schenn-Timonen
Coburn-Grossmann
Streit-Scuderi

Gustafsson

I would like to get younger on defense. Not a fan of addin Streit and Scuderi who are both older.

- stveshdy

That is what I thought, and that is a pricey defense! I have a feeling Homer is going to do something big like that trade I proposed. I'd prefer if we got younger as well, I just don't see who we target to get there.

I'm expecting some changes this summer. Will they be blockbusters? Doubtful. Sometimes making little changes is the way to start.

You have your opinion, I have mine. Sign wherever you'd like. Bill asked for our thoughts, I put mine out there.

agreed. mez can be dumped, but coby's a whole other story. still a good value when he's in the right role. really nervous about moving healthy dmen unless the return is huge.

Yandle, Edler, Shattenkirk, McDonagh, etc.

They all are going to cost you something. Rather do that for a younger defenseman than pay big money for an older UFA defenseman.

That must be how Homer tried to entice Lombardi into taking Read for Bernier these past couple of weeks.

I would use Coburn and Read in a deal to land Edler +.

I know Canucks looking to dump salary but they wont get fair value that way.

How young can we get though really? I think cutting off Briere, Fedetanko, Knuble, Lilja, Shelley and Bryzgalov makes us younger. I think our youth needs to mature now.

He's no fossil either. I wouldn't mind keeping him around for his abilities in a defensive capacity and his skating. Is Streit's skating any good? Grossmann and Timonen aren't exactly greased lightning. Schenn's not exactly a speedster either (though I think his lack of speed was overstated significantly).

Vancouver is looking to get bigger upfront. They are also looking to clear some cap space as well.
