I voted none, because I'd like to see them stand pat, more or less. I want Bryz gone and Briere gone, and go after modest additions to replace them.

I do think that they have yet another wild summer.

Good luck with that

i'm torn between voting bernier or none.

i wouldn't hate having two young goalies with potential... one of em has to pan out, right??
i think matt read will and should look for his payday as UFA. with his late entrance to the NHL he has a much shorter window to make his $, and i can't imagine why he wouldn't take it.

Bernier for Read is probably the best trade deal.

I think its fair value. Read may have shown more b/c of his chance to play but Bernier isn't a bum either.

Like your list but I am going to add to it by saying trying to trade pieces of a expensive and crappy d line....I wouldnt mind them dealing Coburn,Mez, and grossman. I am not saying these guys are awful but they are overpaid and the back line needs to be put back together...you got kimmo for one more year now add streit, schenn maybe you could pick a dman somewhere down the line and i say give laurdisen a spot and go from there....will save you cap dollars and coburn might actually fetch a return

The current group doesn't mesh well imo. I do agree they have too much money tied up in defense for the lack of production/consistency. Everybody has their views on the situation, but that's just my opinion on it.

None. No big moves where we're giving up multiple young players for...whoever.

The Read for Bernier trade is interesting, and I don't think I'd be terribly upset at getting a shot at seeing what Jonathan can really do given 20, 30, 40 games in a season.

Holmgren coming up empty last summer has really set this franchise back. The lack of quality additions and ridiculous, yet predictable amount of injuries, and you have the nightmare season that unfolded.

Amazing in a 48 game schedule, team still couldn't stay remotely healthy. Maybe if the NHL condenses the season to a 10 game schedule players would be able to stay on the ice. Doubtful though, as Hartnell and Glaszaros were gone long term before game 5.

Crossroads summer upcoming. Huge question marks on defense, and as always in between the pipes. Also some depth concerns up front.
Hopefully a solid draft, and some quality FA additions, mix in a trade or two and perhaps this team can be contending again.

I voted for Bernier but that is more provisional...how well he handles the puck. If he is a totem ala Bryz...then I vote other.

Mason's ability to handle the puck made the defense better. Even with a Phantom's defense in front of him. That ability to move the puck and take the pressure off can/will make the defense's ability to move out the puck that much better.

I would be sick if Buff is coming to the Flyers. The class of Briere being bought out for money's sake and then bringing in a player who has NO respect for himself/team/game (as demonstrated by his conditioning)...would be a complete insult.

I voted Bernier because of the cap recapture provision in the new CBA makes me leery of the Bryz contract. I'm not overly enamored with the free agent options - Backstrom (Vokoun II), Mason (no thanks), etc. Hiller, I really don't have an interest in using assets for a guy who will be an UFA after next season and has had marginal success in the playoffs. Halak is intriguing, but I'm not even sure he is available. Bobby Lu would be a great compliment, but even if/when he is bought out, I expect his price to be over $4 million on a multi-year deal. I'm a little skeptical.

Bernier to me makes the most sense at this point if the assets given up are what is rumored. His sample size is small, but pretty successful. Also, I have read nothing to suggest Bernier has sulked about his situation with the Kings. Basically, his work ethic hasn't never been questioned, which Mason does have in his past (I like Mason btw in the small sample with the Flyers).

- ravishingone

To be fair, I don't think Bernier's work ethic has been tested yet.

I'm fine giving Mason a chance. And giving Bernier a chance. I'm not down with giving another monster contract to lure a goalie who may or may not do well in a Flyers uniform.

With so much depth at center you can afford to make a deal to shore up some area's that need it. Giroux, Couturier, B. Schenn & Laughton are all young but very good with Laughton projected to be a prototypical third line center.

Or...move Brayden to LW and draft the best defenseman that falls to you at #11?

Don't trade for anyone. Build from the draft and quit dumping lung players before they can develop.

I'm sure the Sedin's are all pumped up. Tortorella is such a players coach.

Is a new coach an option? Things in goal and on D are not going to get any better under Lavy's system with these players.

AV got the Nucks to a game 7 of a Cup Final two years ago. I think the entire Luongo situation was a huge distraction this year.

keep carle and JVR and they're not groping for solutions. added a nice plyr, but opened up a hole at wing and let go of a puck mover. streit deal justifies paying carle, because the latter is an overall better plyr and not a +35'er. overthought the situation, made an impetuous move and then went gambling at the FA casino- snake eyes!

As you know I'm not a Carle fan at all. So I can't get on Holmgren for letting Carle walk. I'm ok with the Schenn for JVR deal. I believe the Flyers traded JVR when his stock was at an all time low, but I think it's a trade that will benefit both teams in the long run.

There are certainly glaring holes the Flyers have to address. I'm cautiously optimistic it can get done.

Holmgren tried legitimately to add Weber, he gets an A for effort there. Wasting time on trying to sign guys like Parise and Suter who everyone knew were not realistic options were my main issue.

Me too, whether people will admit it or not Gillis (frank)ed up the whole situation. Partly Lu's fault too, as he holds the trump card in that he has the last say where he wants to go. He thought the market would be glad to have him, because of his contract, he was wrong.

I voted for make no moves/ other. I would like to see them sign a free agent defenseman or at worst offer sheet Bernier if it is even available. I don't want to see them overpay for an overrated asset like Ryan or Yandle.

Agreed. I thought Gillis would be gone in addition to AV. Tortorella although I loathe him, does hold guys accountable, and will not let things remain status quo. That said, he comes with a very short shelf life. He's certainly got a bunch of talent to work with.
