I have a feeling Ryan is going to end up here. I'm not totally against it depending on cost. With Briere gone, theoretically there is a spot that needs to be filled in the top 6. Problem is there are more pressing needs.
- PLindbergh31

Cant argue with that, there. I think D MUST be taken care of as soon as possible. We cant go into the draft without creating immediate help on the back end. I think Mez could be traded and that could free up a spot for a rookie or another roster move.

After Steve Mason had 62 games played in the NHL, a lot of people felt he was a lock to be Canada's goalie in the 2014 Olympics. Bernier may well end up a great goalie.

But if it took more than Read, there's no reason to risk it. I'd assume that the Kings would have wanted Read, Stolarz and a 2nd. Anyone jumping up and down to trade that much to the Kings for Bernier?

In the Bernier trade, there are also reports on money going back to LA from what I've heard. #RDS

Just the basics: Reimer's career save % - .915 in 104 GP; Bernier's: .912 in 62 GP; Scrivens': .910 in 32 GP.

What would've been the equivilent from a Flyers perspective to what Toronto gave up?

If Meszaros, Grossmann, and to a lesser extent MAB were completely healthy the backend wouldn't be in bad shape. Unfortunately they are all huge question marks going into camp.

The fact that it is rumoured that Bobby Ryan wants to be here is encouraging to me. He is a local boy and he should play his heart out. Those who think Ryan isn't worth his contract are nuts. Consistent 30 goal player. Enough said.

I would also consider Iginla. Leadership. Workhorse. Tough as nails. Healthy player. Always smiling.

I've said keep him for 1 more year then buy him out, but that would be the case if they didn't feel they wanted to hand it over to Mason and or they didn't like the options in free agency or what asking prices are from teams looking to move a goalie.
- ob18

I think the negatives of keeping him this year far outweight the positives. If he's beaten out by Mason you have a malcontent/huge distraction at an enormous cap hit as a backup goaltender. That imo, is the most likely scenario if he is still on the roster come next week.

Yeah I just hope MAB and Grossmann can get back to the level they were playing before, especially MAB. I saw good upside in the kid. I hope he can battle back ASAP

Read, a 2015 2nd, and Heeter/Stolarz? For Bernier? 24 year old goalie groomed right and who most think is a stud? Have a nice trip Matt. Jsaq, seriously? I got smashed when I suggested 3 years ago that the Flyers trade for Schneider. How's Schneider doing? I'd rather have Bernier then Matt Read and his soon to be 3.5-4MM contract. Flyers missed out. Missed out big time.

You put Ryan on Giroux's wing, I think he's a potential 35+ goal scorer.

Toronto still needs to get Bernier to sign a contract... Any opinions on what it's going to cost them? And any chance he doesn't sign?

The problem isn't how good he is. Its the holes needing to be addressed elsewhere on the team with limited assets.

keep carle and JVR and they're not groping for solutions. added a nice plyr, but opened up a hole at wing and let go of a puck mover. streit deal justifies paying carle, because the latter is an overall better plyr and not a +35'er. overthought the situation, made an impetuous move and then went gambling at the FA casino- snake eyes!
- isaiah520

If the Flyers had not made the JVR for L. Schenn deal, there would be an even bigger hole at defense. There is no real hole at Wing. They have plenty of offensive fire power. The Schenn for JVR deal was an excellent move for the Flyers.

I'm all for acquiring Ryan for a lot of reasons. I find it ironic so many philly fans are unwilling to trade a proven player like Read for an 'unknown quantity' like Bernier and yet they are gung ho about not trading the 11th pick (an 'unknown quantity') for a proven 30 goal scorer like Bobby Ryan.

I disagree. Schneider put up good numbers behind a good team. Bernier put up good numbers behind a good team. The Flyers are no where near as good defensively as the Kings or Canucks.

There's no need to overpay for an unproven goalie.

If he is serious about wanting to be the starter and Toronto's plans don't include that, he could be available again tomorrow.

I don't see them keeping Bryz. I don't think they will take too kindly to some of the things that have been said. I see them grabbing a Backstrom now or someone like that. Can I live with that? I guess. I don't feel Mason, Bryz, or any vet they bring in is the answer.

They do have a hole at wing. It's no secret this team needs a scoring winger to play alongside G.

It's not a glaring need a la the D corps, but it's still on the checklist.

Also, I wouldn't say this team has plenty of firepower. The Hawks have plenty of firepower. The Flyers are above average on O, in my opinion, but don't have "plenty of firepower"

Lots of crying over on tsn.ca about no hearing for Boychuk after the Toews hit. It didn't look that bad to me last night.

Still doesn't look suspension worthy...

the carle thing looks worse w/ the streit signing, but I'm not going to try to sway you there. i think most are coming around to the reality that there seems to be no plan or durable philosophy other than trying their best yr to yr.
- isaiah520

As of right now, unless something changes. The plan continues to be build around the young core of Giroux, Schenn2, Couturier, Voracek, and Simmonds. Plys whatever they do with the #11. There is a clear plan in place. Adding one veteran player does not signal that there is no plan.
