I'm a hockey person. If I told you that I'd give you a bag of pucks and Paulina Gretzky for Letang would you put it up there? Point is, Letang can go for anything you hear, but most likely not as high as you said, fanboy.
- Bluesbreaker

By hockey people I mean former GMs, connected people (like the TSN guys, etc) and what they report in interviews...so you're not included...neither am I.

As for how high...we may, or may not see. But food for thought, Staal went for 8th + Demoulin (top-D prospect) + Sutter, and there wasn't really any bidding going on. Put Letang up on the block and after trimming out the Eastern conference teams (PITT won't deal to them I would imagine) and those who don't need Letang, and you're left with 8 or so teams who would love to have Letang. Given how rare a Letang is, crazy bidding (again, assuming a signed Letang).

Again what us ducks fans are saying is that we already have two stars locked up for eight years. We don't have the budget to add another so we have to rely on the draft and cheaper options. No team in that situation would ever make that kind of trade. Especially for a player that isn't even a necessity
- selanne4pres

There have been a number of reports to the contrary; that ANA would have SERIOUS interest in Letang should he be put on the block...take that as you will, but I've heard those from both the PITT and ANA media, as well as the "hockey people"...

Well, if the rumors on the net are even close to true, the return I am describing is what you'll see if Letang is dealt...he's one of the top 3 D-men in terms of offense/PP, and while prone to gaffs here and there is an average D-man overall. Importantly, he's just entering his prime. A LOT of teams need that exact D, and I would include ANA among them - Fowler is you PP guy now, and he's nowhere (and probably never will be) on Letang's level. Having a guy like Letang can totally change the dynamic of the team...if it's not ANA, other rumors I've heard (from sports people, not hockeybuzz people) include (assuming a SIGNED Letang):

EDM: Eberle+ or 7th overall++
COL: 1st overall
VAN: 1st + Edler + Kassian + prospect
CGY: 6 + 22 + Giordano
DAL: Eriksson + Dillon + prospect or 2nd round pick (for Letang+prospect)
CLB: J Johnson + 14th + 19th
STL: Stewart + Shattenkirk

Point is, in a market where the demand in insanely high for puck moving d-men (Gonchar got 5mil!, Streit got 5+!), the return will be substantial...whether or not the player skill levels match up in the return. It's simple "economics" (in the sense of commodities, not $$)...

- mventres

I'm not sold on Letang being worth a superstar contract. If I played on the PP with Crosby, Malkin, and Neal, even I can get on the scoreboard. He's good...but if he he great? What could he really do if he got traded to a team like Calgary? I'd pay 8 million for a d-man like Chara that can shut down the leagues stars...not a d-man that might score 20 goals at most in a season.

Well, that's your opinion...I don't see how the situation would be much different if he's QBing the PP and Getzlaff/Perry/Etem are on it...

I see CGY as not happening, but I heard the rumors a few times and put it up as an example. If Letang will sign, it's with a team he gets $$ from, as well as one where he sees chances to win and be productive...

You can't always believe what you hear on the Internet. But our gm is known for being a complete idiot so I wouldn't be surprised. If you ever watched a ducks game you would know that letang doesn't fit our system.

I really hope the Leafs don't go after Clarkson, his career only goes downhill from here given his style of play.
- ThePresident

agree! his role was a perfect fit for the devils and really only the devils, however if hes going to want 5 million, I can honestly say im happy he will be gone. Nobody that streaky deserves nearly of what he is asking for. Some other team can waste their money on him. Hope they know he wont be too good for many other teams. Detroit is probably the only other team hed fit with.

Fair enough, if there was no salary cap, it would make sense for Anheim... If Fowler had a real defensive counterpart, I think he could put up some serious numbers. Even the legends like Neidermayer still had Scott Steven and Chris Pronger with him to balance the offence/defence

I definitely take rumors with a grain of salt, but when it is reported in different markets and repeatedly...where there is smoke...

You seriously think thats enough for Bobby Ryan, are you mental? Niederreiter has the same value as a 7th round pick. Plus his attitude sucks, hes a locker room cancer. Anaheim isnt stupid but you clearly are

If ANA deals Ryan, then it's only an additional $2-2.5 on the cap...if Beauch is included then ANA actually saves cap space...

While it would be nice to get another young star, it makes no sense that we'd go for Hall when our main priority is getting someone for the 1C position and upgrading the top 4D

Replace Hall with Ganger and I'd believe you...I don't see EDM trading Hall at all, aside from some injury concerns, he's a freak of a talent and they would take 5 steps back and 1 step forward in that deal with TOR.

Nothing wrong with getting Clarkson. Hits, fights and gets you 20 goals.
4 to 4.5. He is a glue guy, the kind you win with.
Most important a Toronto born player who wants to be a Leaf (if reports true)
That said, if he wants to paid first line money - pass.

There were rumours couple years ago that Ryder, Halak and a 2nd was able to get any superstar in the league, including your precious Crosby. Unfortunately, these internet rumours were untrue, kinda like the info your attempting to get us to buy. Putting trust in internet rumours is like smoking while pumping gas, not a wise choice.

THESE ARE NOT INTERNET RUMORS. These are things people like former GMs/TSN guys in "the know" like Mackenze, etc report either in interviews or on TV. These are not random "Ek" rumors...
