I have seen him magically retain his position despite year after year of underachieving.

Stafford is in play right now and will likely be moved at the draft or a some point this summer. However, the Sabres are not interested in taking back an aging, broken down $5 million money pit like Hemsky.

Oiler fans think Hemsky is a hall of famer...perfect statement

I think the Sabres probally ride out Miller's contract and use this year to ease Enroth into a bigger role.

Enroth clearly isn't ready to shoulder a 60 game load, but lets see how he handles 40 games...

The goalie market is simply too flooded right now (with the likes of Bernier/Lulongo/Bryzgolov/Miller)...

Here's a question for you guys. Seeing how Tampa is looking to move or buyout Lecavalier's contract what would you think of this trade:

Buf:
Lecavalier
#3 pick

Tampa:
Vanek
#16 pick
1 of our 2nds/or a prospect

This allows them to save there buyout for Malone and they still get a 1st and a top 6 forward. We get a top 3 talent and a good veteran to help our younger C's. I see it as a win win.

I'd add 2 or 3 seconds, or have the 8th instead of the #16 in order for it to work. Overall, I like it.

Miller is the best goalie available, hell be the first to go. The rest of those goalies are scary starters. Except bernier. Dont know how you can compare him with those other scrubs

Whats the point if we have no top line, & vanek is gone. Now if we keep vanek, get bobby ryan, & lecavlier. Sign briere

not sure that would work cap wise. That's gotta be like 20-25 mil in salary right there.

Stafford and a 1st rd pick to Edm. for Sam Gagner.

Gagner is an Ontario product who really broke out this yr with 38 points in 48 games. He'd be great for this rebuild.s

Stafford is not a 30-goal scorer. he's a 15-goal scorer (a lazy one at that) who once fluked into 30 goals.

We're not going to have a set top line anyways, might as well get something good for Vanek. If that means taking on a high priced, injury prone, older veteran in order to get a top 3 then I'm game. Just accept it now Vaneks gone. He's not gonna stay for a rebuild.

I'm assuming in that scenario that Millers cap hit is gone.

I agree, you'd definitely would have to add the 8th and instead of the 16th. However they may say no if they aren't confident they could get vanek for more years. I realize the point is to rid themselves of lecavaliers contract but he's still a useful player. So they'd be out a useful player and a future franchise player for one year of a top line winger (potentially) and the 8th overall who Is likely not franchise material.

I think to make it work you'll need both the 8th and 16 IMO.

well lou is a very good goalie with a poopty contract, maybe better than miller and he has what gm's like playoff experience and he has been to the finals so they would feel he knows how to get there, some reason they take that intoaccount

miller's numbers have been declining entering his prime and other than last season (lockout) after the sell off you the sabres were supposedly a playoff team and hasnt made the playoffs in a couple of seasons, so gm's may see that as a negative

very good goalie but teams would rather go younger and cheaper rather than a goalie that has a high cap hit on a 1yr contract that has declining numbers giving up good assets

We have a ton of assests. I believe he can retool the roster in just an offseason. But he wants to do it thru the draft. I hope he just changes the fly. Well see. Dont think its gnna take 4 years like everyone on here is talking.

True to some extent. But I think he's in the top 3 goalies on the market. We'll see what mike smith does as well. He might become another..
