the finals have been great and the best series of the playoffs imo.
but i just want it to be over so things start happening - hugefemale dog77
I completely agree |

My god this 716buffalo guy has given out a few location worthy gems today..
There are UFA goalies out there like Backstrom, Smith and likely Lou once he's bought out. Why would anyone give up a package of a 1st, player and prospect for Miller who could walk in a year? - Iggysbff

this
everyone says we need to trade one of the super kids blah blah blah.
well if we do, this is the type of player we're expecting back.
so seeing as most of those guys aren't available, we'll be looking for a tier down if you will.
but in that case we'll be using other assets to attempt to acquire said players (7th, prv, gagner, klefbom etc etc) - hugefemale dog77
As I've always mentioned, to add the top tier players like Weber, Doughty or anyone else, no question the superkids would be part of any deal like that.
And if the Oilers don't want to move them, that's fine however you won't land a top-end player by NOT involving those superkids.
Yes you'll be able to land possibly the next tier down by involving Klefbom, the first rounder, maybe others but to pull in a top end d-man or a big power forward, it's going to take more than draft picks & prospects. |

I'm not saying Dubey is a poopty goaltender. He's very capable, but isn't some all-star stud. Miller isn't superman either, but saying Miller isn't very good when he faced the chances he did this year is pretty ludicrous. Just look at some of the chances he had to face... 2 on 0s, regular breakaways, countless 2 on 1s, 40+ shot games he stole for us, etc. - LetsGoBuffalo75
Dubey was in the same boat. You accuse me of not watching BUF games, but if saw any EDM games you'd know Dubey's in the same boat |

Nope..Crosby's obviously the best player in the world but getting him would completely destroy what the Oilers are tryin to do in Edmonton. It would completely mess with team chemistry, Hall, Yak, and RNH are the future in Edmonton..you don't trade those guys for anybody. Chemistry is more important than talent. - oilers2k14

I bet if you did a poll with 2000 oilers fans over half wouldn't make the Yakupov for Crosby trade. They also would all agree that Crosby's the better player, just not for the Oilers. - oilers2k14
Oh dear God. Every oiler fan but you would say if MacT somehow pulled that trade out of his ass a statue'd be made of him on whyte ave |

Crosby plus his cap hit plus his concussion history I don't think is worth Yakupov...do I have a man crush on Yak? Maybe - oilers2k14
pleeaaase tell me this is trolling. Crosby's the best player to play the game (okay, maybe in the last 20 years). Don't even feel bad putting him there. |

If we want Barkov (which I hope Mac T does) I hope he trades up to get him without using a roster player. Actually, I'd be fine if Hemsky helped get us to the 4 spot because I think he can be replaced in free agency.
Nischuskin scares me. Has all the tools you want but his vision and hockey sense are questioned, from what I read. And also, maybe I'm looking too much into this but the types of goals he scores driving to the net may not work as well at the NHL level. He seems to force the puck in and his hands don't seem quick in close (from the highlights I've seen). Now that works on U20 goalies as this kid is a monster, but will it work on big NHL goalies? Just a concern I personally have. The one thing is it would create rebounds. - ystoil
How are the Oilers going to move up to #4 without giving up a roster player of significance??
By involving a Klefbom plus the 7th - it's that simple & Nashville would agree to that in a heartbeat but it's NOT easy moving up, I can't believe some people who think they can just toss in the 7th plus a 2nd rounder or the 7th plus Marancin - it's not happening because those teams ahead of you don't have to budge unless they receive an overpayment.
Why would they when the top 4 teams know they will land a stud in the draft!! |

i basically said we ARENT going after players of that superstar ilk.
but there are many 'top end' players that could possibly be acquired for less.
is bogosian top end? marc staal? yandle? even edler?
and for argument sake;
there was no star player going back to cbj for nash. solid role players, young guys, prospects. but no true 'core' players
same for gaborik
same for thornton
same for pronger... three different times
same for kovalchuk
star for star isn't the norm. it's the exception actually. |

No need to trade any of the young guys. Maybe Gags. If you want to be a contender within 2 years then you consider moving Eberle or Hall and making someone severely overpay. The Oilers will be fine when Yak, Shultz, RNH are all 24-25 and have played a few years. Takes a while for players to come into their own, especially on a team that has few veterans - OneKaneOneCup
Hall was 9th in scoring this year and is absolutely the best player on the team. In no circumstance should they trade him. RNH is EDM's 1C, so I wouldn't deal him either. Eberle and Yak'd be available for the right price if I'm edm. But the right price'd be a young #1D man |

And Weber & Doughty(to use examples) would fetch a hell of a lot more than what Nash brought back. I hear your point but to grab the top d-men in the league who can play both offense & defense, it would take a blockbuster kind of deal involving "star" players from both sides. |

I wouldn't give up Klefbom and potentially Lindholm for Nichushkin. That's probably what it'd take to move up, but that's an overpay and I don't think it necessarily helps EDM |

Weber'd take something like Eberle+7th+Klefbom IMO. He doesn't have a great contract |

they probably would fetch more than nash.
not so sure about thornton or pronger though
either way, circumstances are very important. and generally speaking when these 'superstars' get moved it's contact related, trade demand etc, and said team is kinda bargaining from a position of weakness.
but if its just player for player with no extenuating circumstances, or simply need for different need. then yes, ill probably agree with you that's what it takes. |
