a longshot, but im hoping nichushkin falls to 7.
no chance barkov gets past Calgary, so im not even thinking about him.

I'm thinking Barkov is a lock at 4 with Nashville, but if TB goes for Nichushkin at 3, I say NSH goes Drouin, and Carolina gets Barkov. It sucks how there is a drop-off right at 5..

At this point, I could care less if Darcy overpayed with some Miller/Vanek and #8 to Carolina for #5. We need a serious difference-maker like Barkov/Nichushkin that will be there at 5 more than a very good prospect like a Lindholm (maybe) / Nurse that will be there at 8. I really like Lindholm, but I could care less about him if we had the chance to nab up Nichushkin. A line with Armia/someone else, Grigo, and Nichuskin would just horrify defenses everywhere.

assuming jones, mack, drouin and barkov are gone, who do you pick at 5 if you could?
- hugefemale dog77

Nichushkin no doubt

If we want Barkov (which I hope Mac T does) I hope he trades up to get him without using a roster player. Actually, I'd be fine if Hemsky helped get us to the 4 spot because I think he can be replaced in free agency.

Nischuskin scares me. Has all the tools you want but his vision and hockey sense are questioned, from what I read. And also, maybe I'm looking too much into this but the types of goals he scores driving to the net may not work as well at the NHL level. He seems to force the puck in and his hands don't seem quick in close (from the highlights I've seen). Now that works on U20 goalies as this kid is a monster, but will it work on big NHL goalies? Just a concern I personally have. The one thing is it would create rebounds.

No link just saying IMO I think MacT has enough youth he wants to add a veteran presence.
- sabresfandan

fair enough.

he definitely needs to be adding vets and experience. I just don't think its gonna be through more offensive stars.

a medium aged top 4 defender would be great. and im sure he's gonna add experience through our bottom 6 too.

we'll see I guess

Ehrhoff + a second + a bad prospect like adam could get 5th. Report is carolina will probably trade the pick for a top 4 dman. The rest of the league values ehrhoff more then us. Statically, he was a top 10 dman last year.

interesting

my ideal scenario is
jones
mackinnon
drouin
barkov
nurse/ristolainen
Monahan
nichushkin

mackinnon goes to the east, Carolina goes with defence and calgary takes the center they've been trying to get for ten years.
we get nichushkin

longshot. I know

There's no way that'd get it done, but it would be a start. #8 and Ehrhoff would probably get it done, but I could care less what we give up to get Nichushkin. Grigo has said before he enjoyed playing with Nichushkin, which would be a great factor in itself in getting him over here across the pond... Let alone the awesome chemistry that they'd have. It'd be like a Spezza and Heatley combo from 6/7 years ago.

As much as CAR needs a D man, I don't think they'd pass up on a stud like Nichushkin... But hey, you never know.

I don't think hemmer get us into the top 4. those 4 players are extremely coveted.

Id love to get barkov, just not sure we can make it happen without paying a ton.

interesting take on nichushkin too. with his brilliant skating for such a big man, I see someone going to the net for nuge and ebs as well as catching the puck on the fly and being tough to stop.

incidentally I think we're looking for a crasher to do that job this year. but probably a much less talented guy that doesn't have completely concrete hands.
can u imagine a giant, SKILLED, great skating guy to do it alongside those two?
and we now have the depth to give him some time to develop too.

all just guess work and supposition though really

This week is going to get very interesting all around the league in leading up to the draft and into free agency, I'm excited to see what kind of movement we see.

I agree there I wanted Grigo bad last year and we got him and I feel Nichushkin is very overlooked in this draft and can pay huge dividends to whoever gets him. Would be great with Grigo.

My god this 716buffalo guy has given out a few location worthy gems today..

There are UFA goalies out there like Backstrom, Smith and likely Lou once he's bought out. Why would anyone give up a package of a 1st, player and prospect for Miller who could walk in a year?

Ya sorry, I wasn't too clear. I meant I would consider including hemsky with our other assets (a second rounder for instance) to add to the 7th. I agree the 7th and hemmer likely doesn't get us to 4.

For all those reasons you mentioned is why I've thrown out Kyle beach as a target. Although I'm sick of reclamation projects (eager, barker) I think he could really simplify his game on a line with ebs and nuge.

I just want the draft to come

They already developed chemistry together playing in the U20, and we can give him the NHL starting time he wants right away... It's a perfect fit, despite the unlikeliness that it happens...

Agreed. Close to I wouldn't trade Yakupov for Crosby, or Hemsky can help us get into the top 4

Those are stupid as well. If I was trading one of the kids though it would be the other team over paying though. As for Hemsky? I don't give a poop what the return is or if there is one at all. Never liked him. Have been saying to get rid of him for 5 years. Buy him out for all I care, just make sure he is no where near the team next year.

No need to trade any of the young guys. Maybe Gags. If you want to be a contender within 2 years then you consider moving Eberle or Hall and making someone severely overpay. The Oilers will be fine when Yak, Shultz, RNH are all 24-25 and have played a few years. Takes a while for players to come into their own, especially on a team that has few veterans
