Did you see what they paid to get an unproven goalie!!!
If we are going to trade Nino... I would like it to be for a proven 1st line player to play with JT.
If Nino's attitude doesn't change, he will be back in Bridgeport.
And to be honest... do you think any other team wants a whiny little baby? - jimmc7722
Not much... Leafs won the deal. Bernier will be a very good goalie in this league |

Bernier is not completely unproven, but has high potential and Leafs gave up nothing to acquire him.......
Granted, I would not have traded Nino but Snow could have worked the deal ( like a GM should ) to bring Bernier here...Snow dropped the ball on this
If the trade was lopsided or over-payment then I would of agreed on not trading for him.

I heard the leafs wanted a ready backup, which they didn't think Poulin/Nilsson weren't, so they wanted something else |

If Bernier turns into a star and the Isles struggle in goal, then Snow is going to have a problem. I'll see how things play out before going crazy. If Poulin is one of the goalies this year he needs a real shot to show what he can do. Cannot have another year go by without finding out about Poulin.

U mean Kings????
also the Kings could easily find a NHL back up goalie thru FA on the cheap, Quick starts majority of the games anyway....
So we didn't have to offer a goalie back, is the case I'm making.... |

Very interested to hear what the Isles were offering.

I agree about seeing how things play out, and not going crazy but honestly the Leafs offered nothing and just think we have better than Frattin & Scrivens... |

I have no doubt the Isles could have done better. I do think it's very important for Snow to make some sort of impact move this offseason, not only for the team but for himself. Brooklyn is right around the corner and the pressure is going to go up. |

Funny feeling that Snow will do nothing of any impact unless it comes on the cheap.
Only bc Wang will not add payroll until they leave to Brooklyn, so until then, expect the cap floor until the move..... |

You are probably right. I doubt Snow get a long time once the Isles hit Brooklyn though. He better be ready to make deals and have a top team on the ice. |

I would have given up Petrov and picks. No Nino or Nelson. - ses111
The only problem Isles have is they really don't have fringe prospects in system, we have high potential prospects.
If Persson or Kabanov was healthy and had a good yr, they would be the fringe prospects, but neither was healthy enough to produce.... |

Isles weren't going to give up big assets for a goalie who had played a whopping 62 games in five years when they believe Nilsson has a higher ceiling. We had no need to get caught up in that nonsense

I agree about giving no big prospects for Bernier. Nilsson and Poulin can be the answer. This has to be the year we at least find out about one of them. Cannot have another year of Nabby playing most of the games. |

Kings won the deal easily... Bernier was the backup on a defensive minded team.
Put him on the ice in Toronto... his new name will be red light.
Plus the Maple Leafs already have a good goalie.
Frantin, Scriven's and a 2nd rounder trump Bernier all day long!!! |

No question we will find out how good Bernier is this year. Snow did the right thing not giving up big prospects for him. |

I just see no point in filling our goaltending spot with another 23-24 year old goalie prospect when we already have three in the fold. Get someone with at least a track record so we don't Go into the season with a total unknown factor in net. Poulin can show his worth in 25-40 starts and then we can see where Nilsson is.

Exactly right. Maybe bring in Smith. Having Poulin and Nilsson and Kosi made it easy not to overpay for Bernier. If the Isles are looking to make a splash maybe look into Bobby Ryan. Even Ryan though I'm not looking to give up big prospects unless he is willing to sign an extension. |

Yeah I agree. And by doing that it shows they have no confidence with Poulin or Nilsson. |

From what I hear, the Isles believe that Nilsson will ultimately be the franchise goaltender. For this reason, they're being very careful with his developmemt and will allow Poulin to prove he deserves to hang around after this year before turning the reins over to Anders.
Despite reports from such trusted sources as Ek, I don't believe Bernier was ever even a consideration.

If Snow was that confident he wouldn't have been talking to LA. Either he doesn't think they're ready or he isn't confident in one or both of their abilities. I can see him trying to sign someone else. With that said I could see him standing pat with what we have too. Just not getting the feeling he's confident in both Nilsson and poulin. |
