I couldn't fault that type of move... I think Nino can be a hell of a player.. But BR already is. The first is a crap shoot.. it should be a serviceable NHL player.. but it could be nada.
I just don't think its enough in Anaheim's eyes.
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
Anaheim would probably push for a roster player in addition...probably a younger one on a cheap contract. I've said all along that I'd like the Isles to not move Nino unless it is as part of a package for an established power forward that could play on Tavares' right wing. Ryan absolutely fits the bill, as does Vanek. Problem with both is the risk that they bolt...you'd have Ryan for this season and next; Vanek for just this season.
Both are similar production-wise, both are kind of streaky (just from watching Vanek over the years, I always thought his streakiness was him playing through injuries most seasons...he takes quite a bit of abuse from defensemen since he's usually driving to or sniffing around the net). Vanek will turn 30 during this coming season; Ryan will turn 27. But I don't know...I get the feeling Vanek would sign on for four or so years if the Isles traded for him, while I think Ryan would bolt when his contract's up. No real basis for that...just a gut feeling.

If Bernier was proven I wouldn't argue with that... But he really hasn't proven anything either.
You cant trade what you have that could become what you need. (power forward)
for a player (Bernier) that could become what you need that you already have (Poulin/Nilsson).
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
Its one of those things where I can see both sides. I would like to see an upgrade on goaltending AMD not hoping for someone to pan out but I of we kept nabby and had them get some time to see what they got I get it. I know bernier is not "proven" but I've seen more from him to want to take a chance. I still think snow makes a move if not w bernier than someone else. Starting to get the feel he's not so sure about his goaltending. Nabby still not signed. We shall see |

What if Miller was signed to an extension before the trade?
It is very well known that most goalies don't enter their "primes" until they are at least 30. And we all know what Miller looked like as a goalie during an Olympic year last time.....
Miller with extension, 2nd rounder, and Flynn for Moulson and Nino.
Nino isn't gonna stay with NYI.. he wants off.. you guys have no leverage with him when his RFA rights come up.. you have to deal him. - MillerTime1130
Millers a bum, drop the subject as the Isles do not want him. miller should have learned to keep his mouth shut during the lockout and maybe he would have a chance to play somewhere. |

Theodore, Emery, Montoya, Nabokov, Smith would be my preference over Ryan Miller. Smith would be my first choice as a Bernier/Poulin tandem would be a huge gamble. Smith/Montoya would work well. |

nope. I like Miller but a goalie with one year left on his deal that's making a fair bit of coin isn't worth giving up our best wing prospect and a 3 time 30 goal scorer. - Isles_since_6
Agreed...I don't like Miller anywhere near that much, especially since he is out after this year, and you know THEY aren't signing him. |

Wonder which way does Snow go now? Stay with Nabby? I have to think he was in on Bernier if Staple was tweeting it? I'm guessing there is a big trade for Luongo coming up? - Cptmjl
Bottom line is it's Bernier for Niederreiter, straight up, or it's nothing....and that's as it should be. I'm not trading anything more or anyone else for Bernier, and that won't cut it, which is WHY we're probably out of the running, at least for now. As for Niederreiter, his best bet if he wants to be moved would be to keep his mouth shut, and do what he's told. Otherwise, he's going to be here for as long as he has to per the CBA, miserable as he might be. |

you're incorrect here. He's going to get his shot in camp and after he becomes an RFA the Isles hold all the leverage. He'll resign or he'll hold out and play nowhere. If someone signs him to an offer sheet we can match. He's got nothing. - Isles_since_6
Right....his only leverage is to be a good soldier, work his a$$ off, and ask to be moved quietly, behind the scenes. Otherwise, he'll be here until he's 27, and by then, if he's cr*p, no one will want him. |

Well, if he thinks Strait is a top pair dman, then he must think Ricky is a top 5 goalie in the league. I said it last week...they're keeping RDP around for a reason and it isn't for a mega-contract-swap/trade for Luongo. - jmo16
My guess is we'll either resign Nabokov, or take a shot on Smith or Backstrom, and see which one of our kids takes charge and becomes the real deal, if any. Regardless of what they do with DiPietro's contract, he got sent down last year because he couldn't play. I doubt that has changed, and I doubt the PLAYERS will put up with that any longer. The players Milbury brought in who were just here to collect a paycheck are all gone. These guys won't put up with that, which is why he got sent down last year- they deserve better, and they expect to WIN.
He is useless at this point- if Wang wants to keep paying him to stink in Bridgeport, that's fine, but he won't play here anymore, especially if the Ratner gang is running the marketing department. That would be a PR disaster, and I'm sure that's already clear to everyone involved. |

That Strait comment was frightening. - Cptmjl
Actually, he said top four, not top two....which means he must think MacDonald and Hamonic are top two, which at this point anyway is scary, for sure. Strait is too slow to be a top four....the good news is, he's a solid five or six, and he cost us nothing but Wangbucks. That's a good deal, kind of like Grabner, but I personally think Snow was just trying to motivate the player with the BS he spewed there at the booster club meeting...if he really thinks Strait is a top four, we're never going to have any REALLY good defensemen, unless he drafts one by accident. |

I heard all the good things about Bernier but my only fear is that he hasn't played as a starter in a full season. how would we know that he would succeed? I would accept this trade if we just offered nino and a draft pick for him and a prospect then Im happy.
Bernier and Poulin then Poulin bye bye then Nilsson comes! |

Snow called about Fleury. WHat would that take? I would say being in the same division, Pitt would want the #1, Nino and Reinhardt. Way too much, but that would be the asking price. |

I actually have a little faith we'll have a starter by the season and it won't be Poulin. I know Fleury won a cup and played the way he played in the PO's against us but even pushing his recent playoff woes away I just hate the guy |
