No way Nonis gives up a 1st for just Bernier.

He can just offer sheet him in a week anyway.

Gardiner is not going anywhere unless for a bona fide #1C.

They will for Bernier and the Kings pick...
- Flyfreaky

I imagine Frattin and a 2nd rounder would get it done. Frattin was rumored to be the center piece of the deal.

You better think twice about some of those comments...They offered the Kings a huge package for him...

Bernier isn't signing an extension. So not sure where you're going with this. He signs an extension, LA can't trade him.
- mykokes

You're missing the point. He gets traded to a new team, and the new team signs him to the extension, meaning July 5th rolls around and he is unavailable.

Why he's not played 40 NHL games are the Leafs smoking something here. What if both he and Reimer don't work out because you don't have a solid number 1.

Bernier was 9-1 in his starts with the Kings in relief of Quick this season. He is a highly skilled goaltender that has the potential to be an all-star. Aside from Schneider, show me another available goaltender in the league that can be had for a low cap hit.

Also, the only way you can offer sheet him is if every other team in the league passes on the Bernier sweepstakes. Contract extensions can be signed immediately, offer sheets can't go out until July 5. That's a pretty big gamble to take if they really want a shot to land him.

Listen, I'm not arguing whether Bernier is a good tender or not, I believe he could be. But that doesn't change the fact that his pedigree is that of a backup goaltender, with little experience and no experience whatsoever handling the starting gig, in Toronto no less. It's a different animal. When he let's a goal in he can expect to have to answer WHY he let that goal in while he's moving his bowels, answer why he is on a 2 game losing streak and what he needs to change while having dinner with his woman.

Anton Khubodin went 9-4-1 in relief of Rask this year and I don't think you would be lining up to give him a first and a prospect either.

It just doesn't make sense. You have a good, humble kid who is under contract, you know can handle the pressure of Toronto and just took your team to OT in game 7 against the Bruins. Nevermind that he is the first goalie to be drafted and come through the system since Felix Potvin. It just simply doesn't make sense to give up assets for a "maybe".

I like Bernier a lot myself, but the Toronto Maple Leafs have way bigger issues to address than their goaltending.

Not agreeing with the said trade... BUT... the general consensus league wide is that Bernier is a bonafide number 1.. just yet to prove it

I think the best trade for LA would be to trade Bernier to the Wild for Clutterbuck

With Backstrom and Penner hitting free agency it's a perfect trade off to fills both voids.

Leafs trade for a goalie...and I'm going to be a FlyFreaky fan.

Last thing the Leafs need is to trade anything for a goalie...trade for a #1 D or a #1 C or or or....Nonis is a moron if he gives up something for Bernier.

We have a Bernier with more experience already!!!!
