every year the commentary coming from the media hoard is the "this is going to be a great draft"...

each year there are a handful of maybe five or six just drafted players who make their NHL clubs and couple of them either shine or do just okay.

we won't know how good the 2012 or 2011 draft years are for at least another 2 to 3 years.

remember when Hall and Seguin were all the talk.... well Hall seems to be becoming the player everyone expected and Seguin is playing largely 3rd line minutes... so the sure-fire prospects aren't even sure anymore. (this is not meant as a criticism of either Hall or Seguin... just picked them because of the hoopla about one being picked over the other).

What I heard was 2012 was top heavy with a huge drop off, while 2013 goes deep. I think Rielly was/is a better prospect than Darnell Nurse for example. Outside of Jones, i don't think there is a d-man in 2013 that I'd take over Rielly that's going in the first round.

If they give up a 1st and a prospect for a backup goaltender with no more of a pedigree than the guy they have, Nonis should be fired instantly. Rask for Raycroft? 1st rounders etc. for Toskala? Who also was just an amazing backup who was ready to be a starter. That....that didn't quite work out. And the draft pick ended up being Logan Couture. Could be starting centre for the Leafs right now but instead they got Toskala, who I think the last time I saw him he was in my beer league.

Learn from your mistakes.

Especially when L.A is in tough with the cap, why would you trade assets when you could offer sheet him?

This rumour makes no sense for the Maple Leafs.

Bernier was 9-1 in his starts with the Kings in relief of Quick this season. He is a highly skilled goaltender that has the potential to be an all-star. Aside from Schneider, show me another available goaltender in the league that can be had for a low cap hit.

Also, the only way you can offer sheet him is if every other team in the league passes on the Bernier sweepstakes. Contract extensions can be signed immediately, offer sheets can't go out until July 5. That's a pretty big gamble to take if they really want a shot to land him.
