hmm, I just looked at his contract and he's signed until he's 42 (2020-21). I would look to sign him for 4 years at 4.5-5.5 If he was a ufa he'd command more but after a buyout it might be enough.

But I think they'd Chicago might look at a buyout one year from now if at all.

Which could be a reason why to stand pat and not jump the gun, guys that might not get bought out this year, might end up getting bought out next year like Franzen and Hossa...

And thats when everyone is off the books for us and we have a ton of cash to work with and fix up the holes.

Safest bet may be to stand pat and wait for next year to do any major moves. Let AV see what he likes and doesn't like. But we could be a bubble team at the end again

I dont know if being a bubble team is a good or bad thing... if we dont win the cup, we might as well be the worst team and get a top pick. On the flip side, if we are that bad than we have a lot of work to do or AV might not be the right guy.

Too many variables damn it!!!

My theory is you fill needs when they arise if your a win now team. Thats the debate i guess, win now or not. I consider us a win now team because our goalie is getting older. But I see alot of needs on this team aswell

I wouldnt say a lot of needs, but I would say about 4...

1. A true #1 or someone better for the #2 spot.
2. A scoring winger
3. A player with size who can play both ways.
*4. A PP QB, however we will see how DZ and Co. will play under AV's offense which get the D involved a lot more in the offense.

I agree that as fans we tend to overvalue our own. That being said and completely understanding that may indeed be the case here, I would go Girardi, Hamhuis then Bieksa. The others have fewer flaws than Bieksa.
- gkmkiller

Ok thanks. Just think there isn't much difference in the three except Hamhuis might bring a little more offense and Bieksa might bring sone grit/toughness. Would love to have a d-man that dropped the gloves every once in awhile. Andi know people are going to say McIlrath but we waited for Sanguinetti and that never panned out.

I agree with all, but isnt 4 is alot tho?

1 The #1 center is the hardest to get. I think with step and brassard were ok for now. Granted Richards was suppose to be that bonafide #1

2. If Kreider develops that answers that

3. Most pressing need this team has had in years.

4. I wouldn't mind a big shot but this need I'm willing to just get by with what we have currently. Like you said, AV may get more out of a DZ then torts did. Moore is smooth too and girardi can hit the net so they're options also.

i think mcilrath will pan out. when he played in training camp last season, he was noticeable in a positive way and played really well. he just needed to get seasoned more.

never know though but i have high hopes for the kid.

1. i think stepan is a really, really good 2nd line center or a good enough 1B. not sure he is dynamic enough to be a bonafide 1 but he's only 22 or 23 and was on pace to put up over 70 points so maybe he is. next season will be a big year for his development and we'll see what type of player he can consistently be.

2. agreed.

3. agreed. i think boyle plays best on the wing so we could move him there permanently. obviously, bickell and clowe are also options via FA.

4. i think DZ, mcdonagh, moore, richards, or even brassard should be able to QB the PP as long as AV can coach a decent powerplay.

I think Moore has the potential to absolutely blow the F up (in a good way) this season. Hes such a smooth skater and so calm with the puck. We also have Skjei, McIlrath and Allen in the pipeline so who knows.

I think we need one more even if Kreider does step up. I think we still need one more guy who can assert himself on a goalie.

The center thing isnt an absolute pressing need, but I guess were in the "good enough" zone for now. I could see Richards getting bought out and Jumbo Joe getting brought in to play with Nash.

yea for sure. he has a lot of confidence and loves playing with the puck on his stick and making plays similar to JT miller.

never hurts to have scoring wingers for sure. ryder anyone? maybe send calgary an offer for glencross? if we resign clowe and he pots 15-20 goals that would be a huuuuuuuge help for us.

I have no problem resigning Clowe for the right price. The 1 period he played before leaving the game in playoffs showed how important he was to the team. The team looked totally different once he left the game.

Im not against signing Ryder as long as it is for the right price and no more than 2 years.

would be tough to get ryder for 2 years or less. i'd be willing to lock him up for 4 years but i obviously have an infatuation with him.

This is probably the best we can do without buying out Richards.

keep in mind guys, Taylor Pyatt is signed next year, relatively cheaply, and his career best year came playing under Vigneault in Vancouver, 23 goals.

I would definitely keep him in these pretend lineups.

This offseason is going to be interesting indeed. I am really willing to wipe the slate clean on almost everyone other than Bickel lol. In this new system, some players who most people hated under Torts, could thrive.

If we do keep Pyatt, and we resign all our RFA's then theres no chance of us signing anyone... we will have about 1.5m if not less to play with.

Nash, Stepan, MZA
Kreider, Richards, Callahan
Clowe, Brassard, Hagelin
Pyatt, Boyle, Dorsett
Asham

Could be worse.

That is not a bad forward unit, except that it makes no room for Miller (at least at the start of the year). I'm not sure you can fit all that under the cap, however.

I think, combined, Hagelin and Zucc will get about you have them slotted at. I think Stepan and McDonagh are going to make more than $3.850 per, perhaps much more. If they want to play hardball, I think they can make a million more a piece, which would make re-signing Clowe impossible (it would be Miller instead).

Keep in mind, its AAV.

For example, McDonagh... 6 years, 23 million. 3.25, 3.25, 3.75, 3.75, 4.5, 4.5

Averages out to 3.833333m AAV
